Creamy Zesty Cashew Sauce recipe (V) https://speakoftheangel.com/creamy-zesty-cashew-sauce-recipe-v/ Wed, 13 Apr 2022 00:24:28 +0000 https://speakoftheangel.com/?p=8156 I am by no means going to claim this recipe as my own! I actually saw this sauce on someone’s story on Instagram and asked them what they put in it. Since then, I’ve just tweaked it a bit so that it’s even more jam-packed with flavours I love. You can also find variations of this sauce online as well by different recipe-writers, but this is the version that I’ve been eating with just about everything!

Keeps for 4-5 days, refrigerated

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cashews, soaked overnight
  • 1-2 tbs of nutritional yeast
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary (you can really add whatever herbs and spices that you want!)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Oat milk
  • Salt & pepper

Preparation:

  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender
  2. Blend until smooth!

Date Night With Le Parmentier https://speakoftheangel.com/date-night-with-le-parmentier/ https://speakoftheangel.com/date-night-with-le-parmentier/#respond Fri, 19 Apr 2019 17:25:30 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=7065 Had a lovely date night the other night with my love and my new Le Parmentier Yucca bag from Forzieri.

I’ve been working with Le Parmentier for a while now, and am always so impressed with the quality of their bags.

USE CODE ‘ANGEL15’ FOR 15% OFF VALID UNTIL MAY 15

Their Yucca saddle bag is not only stunning, but it’s made from a durable leather and beautiful suede and it’s quickly become one of my favourite bags to carry this Spring/Summer season. I also am absolutely in love with the colour of this bag. I have it in the cognac colour and I think it’s the perfect option for a light coloured bag without being beige or white. Plus, this colour pairs perfectly with blue jeans which is mostly what I wear in the Spring/Summer.

We had our date night at my favourite pasta place in Vancouver, Di Beppe. Above and beyond just having amazing food (their lasagna tastes just like the lasagna from the love of my life Eataly), their vibe and their service are always top notch. Matthew, their GM, and Mark, their other manager, are two of my favourites from the restaurant. But all the servers are honestly amazing as well.

Things you should try there:

  • Lasagna
  • Margherita Pizza
  • Cacio E Pepe
  • Meatballs
  • Chop Salad (honestly my favourite salad I’ve EVER tried)

Had an amazing date night and I’m in LOVE with my new bag. What more could a girl ask for?

Spending a Day in La Jolla, California https://speakoftheangel.com/sunsets-in-la-jolla/ https://speakoftheangel.com/sunsets-in-la-jolla/#respond Sat, 01 Dec 2018 15:47:28 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5940 Summers in California has quickly become my favourite part of the year. I’ve gotten to run off to Cali two years in a row and I’m always so glad that I did. This summer I visited San Diego for the first time. And still, to this day, I dream about those La Jolla sunsets.

If you’re travelling to San Diego, I think it’s worth to spend an entire day in La Jolla. Yes, it can get busy during the summer months, as it’s both a popular tourist and family destination to spend the afternoon. But even bustling with people strolling the beaches, La Jolla was so tranquil and peaceful to me. Definitely a place you won’t forget.

Start your morning off with brunch at The Cottage. It’s such an adorable little restaurant. Their wait can get a little crazy on weekends but is well worth it. The Cottage is also conveniently located 5 minutes away from both La Jolla beach as well as The Museum of Contemporary Art of San Diego—both definitely worth visiting after brunch.

From there, stroll up from La Jolla beach to the Children’s Pool for some classic San Diego photos. There are stunning views of the cliffs between the beach and the pool—definitely take your time getting from one place to the other.

You can walk further north along the coast to get to the infamous La Jolla coves. Want that perfect Instagram rock formation bikini photo? You’ve come to the right place ?. All jokes aside, if you’re in La Jolla you definitely have to pay the cove a visit. This will be family CENTRAL so if you’re looking to tan and read, this is probably not the place. But grab some ice cream and park your booty on a bench here; I promise you won’t be disappointed.

If you want to take a break from the Ocean (although I’m sure you won’t), go take a mid day shopping break on Girard Ave. Located right next to the beach in Downtown La Jolla, this area is known for its mix of unique boutique shops, mall stores, and higher-end establishments like Cartier. There are also tons of cute coffee shops if you want to grab a quick bite for lunch!

Once it gets closer to sunset, head back to the cove and just watch. If you want dinner with a view, I’d HIGHLY recommend George’s On The Cove. This was definitely easily one of our favourite spots that we discovered on the trip. Make sure when you’re making reservations at George’s, to ask to be seated on their Ocean Terrace level. If you can only visit one place from this entire article, this would be it. Trust!

Eating My Way Through The Los Angeles Food Scene https://speakoftheangel.com/eating-my-way-through-los-angeles/ https://speakoftheangel.com/eating-my-way-through-los-angeles/#respond Wed, 24 Oct 2018 21:05:54 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5875 The main question I get whenever people ask about my travels to LA are always “What was your favourite restaurant?” Los Angeles is known for its food scene as much as it’s known for its movies, palm trees, and beautiful people which is why I thought I’d share some of my favourite places to grub in LA.

Great White in Venice

If you’re visiting the Venice Boardwalk or just on the west side for the day, check out the Great White for brunch. All their dishes are health-conscious and the vibe of the restaurant is great! Not to mention it is literally steps away from the beach.

Joan’s On Third

One of my absolute favourite simple brunch places to go when I’m planning on spending the day in WEHO. They also sell pastries and other fares and goodies.

Republique

Okay honestly, I’d go here again JUST for the atmosphere. The interior is absolutely stunning and so different from any other restaurants that I’ve seen. The bonus is that the food was BOMB. I had a Kimchi Fried Rice bowl for brunch. Great for brunch and photos.

The Commissary at the Line Hotel

Two words. BLOGGER. PARADISE. If you’re looking for a good eggs benny, amazing lighting, and stunning atmosphere, definitely check out The Commissary. Try to go on weekdays because their Brunch menu changes for weekends into an all you can eat (which in my opinion is not as good).

The Pie Hole in Arts District

I stayed in the Arts District last time that I was in LA, which is how I discovered this place. I had their Shepard’s Pie for breakfast and it was pretty delicious. This is a good place to come if you’re also looking for a place to camp out with your laptop and get some work done as well.

The Stinking Rose

This place is my heaven. The Stinking Rose is a restaurants that uses Garlic as their main ingredient in all their dishes. AKA my literal dream come true. Everything we had here was absolutely amazing. If you’re garlic lover like me, you’re going to be obsessed with this place. “Would you like some food with that garlic?”

Eataly

This photo doesn’t do Eataly ANY justice at all. If you haven’t heard of Eataly before, it is like an Italian Cuisine heaven. Eataly is a huge Italian food market complete with pizza and pasta restaurants. I first discovered Eataly in New York and almost cried when I found out that there was one in LA. My favourite dishes here are either the Sopressata pizza or the Lasagna.

The Cabana Cafe at The Beverly Hills Hotel

The Cabana Cafe is an iconic part of the Beverly Hills experience. Actually, the entire Beverly Hills Hotel is absolutely stunning, and is to me the epitome of old school barbie doll glam that defines 90210. But not only is it beautiful, the Cabana Cafe actually has really yummy brunch as well. If you can, try to sit in one of the Instagram infamous booths so you can get your perfect photo.

Aghassi Gopchang

Los Angeles is KNOWN for its Korean food and ktown festivities and Aghassi Gopchang has got to be one of my favourite kbbqs that I’ve tried. All of their meats are absolutely amazing (and so is their tofu soup). BUT expect a line up for at least 30 minutes because apparently everyone else in LA agrees with me. There is a really great dessert shop two doors down if you get hungry and want a quick snack, so that’s a plus.

BCD Tofu House

Known for it’s BOMB DIGGITY tofu soups and it’s 24 hour service, BCD is definitely my go-to post night out food place. Unless you’re looking just to grab a quick bite before heading home from a night out (in that case, I recommend the taco trucks), BCD is THE PLACE to go. It does get quite busy, but they do have ample seating so expect a 15-30 minute wait. I’ve been there twice and both times only had to wait about 20 minutes which wasn’t so bad.

Literally almost drooling as I wrote this post. Los Angeles is amazing for it’s food scene and I can’t wait to go back and eat more (is that sad?). Hope this was helpful!

Popina Opening Event https://speakoftheangel.com/popina-opening-event/ https://speakoftheangel.com/popina-opening-event/#respond Thu, 09 Aug 2018 16:35:37 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5656 I was invited to the opening of new seafood restaurant at Granville Island yesterday, and it was amazing. Seafood has always been hit or miss for me—I used to hate eating it as a kid. But as I’m getting older, I’m starting to appreciate seafood more and more—especially when it’s made right.

One thing I never thought I’d love growing up was raw oysters. But now… Janice and I couldn’t walk away from the free oyster bar. It was amazing.

They also serve a delicious crispy chicken sandwich and have been getting quite a bit of attention for their seafood tray. I’m not really sure how busy they get but Granville Island does get quite a bit of foot traffic during the summer so I imagine it could get quite busy during peak hours.

And can I just say, Popina’s branding is on point. Their entire store is brightly coloured, as is their Instagram. Especially on Granville Island where a lot of the buildings are wooden or concrete, it REALLY stands out and it’s the best thing.

Did I leave the house again with just a bikini top on? HECK YEAH. It’s honestly been way too hot to even think about putting a t-shirt on recently. Wearing a cute bikini top with a pair of high-waisted denim shorts has been my ultimate summer outfit this year. I got this adorable green bikini set from RoseGal. I love bikini’s like this especially for this exact purpose. The whole athleisure street wear look has been trending on an all-time high this season and these tops give off that perfect “sports bra-esque” vibe.

I do however need some new shorts for sure. I’ve been wearing these to death all summer but it’s mainly because they’re the only pair of my shorts that fit me loosely and comfortably. All my other shorts are pretty slim-fitting and that is NOT the vibe I need during this heat-wave.

Adesso Bistro https://speakoftheangel.com/adesso-bistro/ https://speakoftheangel.com/adesso-bistro/#respond Sun, 08 Jul 2018 13:41:51 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5469 Had an opportunity to try out Adesso Bistro’s new happy hour menu the other week and I’ve definitely just found my new favourite summer patio. Since Adesso is conveniently located within the West End neighbourhood, the patio feels like a bouje, hidden, Euro space with its string lights and greenery. The general manager, Bradley, explained to us that Adesso started out as the first drag bar in Vancouver, which is why it’s in such a hidden space. Since then, it’s evolved into a sophisticated resto/bar that serves European/Fusion fares with a twist.

We tried the Beef Tataki, the Fried Chicken, and the Cheese and Charcuterie Board and it was amazing. Every dish had a slight, unexpected twist to it that somehow seemed to make sense as if it was the “missing ingredient” in those dishes after all. I honestly wouldn’t be able to pick a favourite even if I had to.

Even though the food was all very well-thought out and delicious, the thing that draws me in the most is still the overall vibe of the patio space. You really do have to experience yourself to understand. So wait for the next sunny day and head out to the West End and give Adesso a try.
