I know I’m a little late on my update of LA but since I’ve been back I’ve been swamped with work and last minute summer activities. Not to mention my laptop crashed on me the day I got back so I’m stuck with using my historic Macbook air which I usually use just for note taking. The importing and uploading of photos REALLY made me appreciate and miss my Macbook Pro :'(

Okay onto a happier topic… LA! LA was an amazing trip and was definitely something I needed before summer ended and school began. Here’s one of the days I spent there.

IMG_4875

Started the day off right with brunch at the Commissary in the Line Hotel in Koreatown. It was absolutely magical. I’ve seen photos on IG of it before but it was even more amazing and aesthetically pleasing in person. Overall I have to say the Line Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Very modern and simplistic. Definitely would consider staying there when visiting LA again.

Of course I had to stick with my go-to, an eggs benny. This one replaced the usual ham with prosciutto and oh dear lawd… it was amazing. Pretty much licked my plate after.

Found this cool little balcony on the same floor as the Commissary that just had some benches, plants, and a fire pit. Definitely a very cool vibe and can imagine some great summer chills there.

This is the view right out of the hotel lobby! I swear every single corner of LA is picture perfect. I can definitely see how LA bloggers have it so much better now ):

The rest of the day we just spent exploring different shopping areas such as Rodeo Drive (which was absolutely HEAVENLY) and the Fairfax and Melrose area. The urban culture in LA was just absolutely mind blowing. There were so many really cool stores and boutiques that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Not to mention all the walls and murals that I thought I’d only ever see on blogger feeds! Definitely wished I had prepared more spending money but I’m glad I reserved most of my money for food and activities rather than shopping. I think for my first real trip to LA I’m happy that I did all that I did and saw all that I saw. We mostly spent our time exploring the areas that we were interested in and eating the food that we were recommended either by friends or found on social media.

Next time I go I am definitely spending more time at the beaches (will be blogging about my Venice Beach/Santa Monica Pier day soon!) and bringing way more spending money! :b

As for my outfit I’m wearing a shirt that I bought from a random local boutique. My shorts are by One Teaspoon which I bought at Aritzia and my shoes are from Shoeme!

Oh yeah and a travel tip: BRING A BACKPACK! My Alexander Wang mini Marti backpack was my go-to for this trip for SURE. I found that having my handsfree was so helpful. Not to mention a lot more comfortable on my shoulders than just a cross-body bag.

I have more LA content coming soon!

Until then,

In Dark Alleys https://speakoftheangel.com/in-dark-alleys/ https://speakoftheangel.com/in-dark-alleys/#respond Tue, 09 Aug 2016 05:21:16 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2644 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

One of my favourite discoveries from my day trip to Victoria a few weeks ago was this amazing little alley in the heart of their Chinatown. I don’t know if it has a name or not but I’m just gunna call it the Heart’s Content alley (or HC for short) because there’s a cute little sign (which I’m pretty sure is actually for the shop but whatever) right at the start of the alley that says “this way for your heart’s content”.

The little brick alley opened up to a slightly larger space that is filled with cute little store fronts. Unfortunately we went there a little late and we didn’t get to go into any of the shops but it was still such a cool area to discover. It definitely made me feel some mad Harry Potter vibes. Diagon Alley anyone?

And of course, as bloggers do, we had to do a little shoot to capture the cool vibes of the place. And please don’t mind me hiding my face in 90% of the photos. I can’t do a smize or a bitch face if my life depended on it, so we’re just gunna cut that part out and PRETEND that I’m super street and cool. Okay.

I’m trying to pair more contrasting pieces together lately because I want my style to encompass everything that I love. I like dressing girly sometimes but also more casual and boyish other times. I like wearing all tight clothing sometimes, but also loose baggy jeans and tshirts. So I’ve been trying to mesh that all together and wear at least one contrasting piece in every outfit.

For this one it’s definitely the girly knit shirt with my badass new Alexander Wang mini marti bag and my super distressed One Teaspoon denim skirt. I loved how the outfit turned out and think it is a good representation of my style as a whole.

So that leads to the question, what does your style encompass? Are you more girly? More street? Sophisticated? Classy? or a little bit of everything? Let me know in the comments!

MY SILVER LINING https://speakoftheangel.com/my-silver-lining/ https://speakoftheangel.com/my-silver-lining/#comments Wed, 30 Mar 2016 06:35:47 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1339 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I gotta say, although I love how classy and rich gold jewelry looks, a part of me will always still love silver. Something about the cold crisp and sleek look that silver gives off… it really stands out. This outfit was taken quite a while back, when I first bought my wang boots. It took me about an hour to decide between rose gold and silver but, as you can see, the heart wants what the heart wants. I still don’t regret my decision one bit. These Wangs were definitely a silver lining for me. (HA see what I did there)

| Coatigan : Express | Blouse : Aritzia | Jeans : Urban Outfitters | Bag : Celine | Shoes : Alexander Wang |

WOW has it been busy lately… School, work… everything is really starting to pile up. It’s gotten to the point where I really don’t have the time (or energy) to do anything other than go to school, and go to work.

This past weekend was Halloween however, and I actually went out! #MUCHWOW. Went to an event called Dooms. For someone who hasn’t done anything but studied for the past couple of months, I still managed to dance my little butt off for 6 whole hours. BUT that means I am (and probably will be for the next week or so) in recovery mode. HENCE the basic outfit. I also had a presentation at school today, so I pretty much had no choice, but to wear the black blouse and pants combination.

I added my “coatigan” (which is today’s fancy hybrid of a coat and a cardigan), which I got from Express 2 years ago. I think it adds a nice cozy touch to the otherwise boring outfit. I really like how the front of this piece has two, big, flowing lapels. I think it gives it a more dressy look, and I love pairing it with dresses in the colder months.

I usually forget to wear jewelry, but today I remembered to put on my initial necklace from JQ Vancouver. JQ Vancouver is a jewelry seller based out of Vancouver. Currently their jewelry is carried in a few small stores in the area, and sold online on their website. So if you like this little number, go and check them out ! I’ll link their Instagram account here as well.

Hope your week is no where near as stressful as mine !

NEW BOYFRIEND (JEANS) https://speakoftheangel.com/new-boyfriend-jeans/ https://speakoftheangel.com/new-boyfriend-jeans/#respond Sun, 25 Oct 2015 17:55:40 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1404 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

If you guys haven’t noticed already, but there’s TWO outfits in today’s post ! I went shopping downtown with my older sister today, so I decided to lug my camera out and create some new content !

I bought a new pair of boyfriend jeans this week ! I’ve been trying to find the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans for the LONGEST time. My body is not proportionate in the sense that my thighs and calves are bigger in proportion to my waist. So when I try to buy boyfriend jeans, if I buy the jeans in my waist size, they wouldn’t be a ‘boyfriend fit’ on my thighs. They’d be TIGHT. but if I go a size up in the waist size, the legs are perfect.

But I found and tried on a pair of these distressed blue denim in Forever 21 and actually ended up loving it!

The waist is a little big, but for the baggy fit it’s perfect. I love the uneven distressing and the light blue wash. And the BEST PART?! They were only $40!

I’ve been wanting a pair of boyfriend jeans for SO long that I was actually considering splurging and spending 300+ on a pair of citizens! But honestly, those don’t even look as good on me as these ones do.

And can we talk about my Kelly’s (my older sister) Celine for a second… It is absolutely beautiful. It’s in such a gorgeous colour way. The nudes and maroons are perfect for Fall. I’m sooooo in love with it <3

Both my classes were canceled today, so I asked Vernice to have a shoot day with me downtown. I love having productive days, like today, because not only am I having fun roaming downtown, I also get to produce a lot of content from one outfit. Today we decided to visit the art gallery and then walk around the surrounding area. I love the vibe that this outfit gives. The fitted green coat almost gives off a sleek military feeling. And of course my Anouk boots are badass AF. And then I paired it with my slouchy Hobo bag from Aritzia to really dress down the outfit.

The coat is definitely my statement piece for this outfit, and I love it !

Also, how ’bout these photos hey? I just recently purchased a Canon 50mm f/1.8 Mark II lens. I’m not going to pretend like I know about photography, which I don’t. But I have two friends who both highly recommended the lens, so I hunted one down for cheap ! This lens was actually an affordable lens to begin with (retails for around $160?) but I got lucky, and found a seller offering it used for $80. So I snagged it ! and I LOVE IT. The depth range is amazing. I think the bokeh effect really amps up my blog photo quality.

Hope you’re liking the new quality as well, and I hope that I can start taking more professional photos for my blog !

Until next time !

ALEXANDER WANG ANOUK BOOTS https://speakoftheangel.com/alexander-wang-anouk-boots/ https://speakoftheangel.com/alexander-wang-anouk-boots/#comments Tue, 13 Oct 2015 02:12:07 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1331 Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset

You have no idea how long I’ve yearned for these booties. I think ever since I first laid eyes on the sleek, modern, edgy design of the Alexander Wang Anouck booties, I fell in love. As a teen, it was always just an unachievable goal. Something so far off from reality, that I would just lust and pine over. But as a 20 year old, it suddenly became not so unachievable.

After seeing them in person and on my friend Vernice, I knew I had to get them. The plan originally, was that I would save up, bit by bit, for them, until I could afford them. But two weekends ago, I went shopping with my family, and they all loved the boot on me so much, that I decided I would just dig into my savings a little bit and treat myself. And I have absolutely no regrets what-so-ever.

YES they’re pricey for a pair of shoes but oh my god are they beautiful… and not to mention SO comfortable and goes with everything @_@.

So if you ask me whether it was worth the (very hefty) splurge? I say abso-fucking-lutely. But yanno. Saving up for them first would’ve been chill too.

Get ready to see ALOT more posts about them because I am OBSESSED.

Sadly I’ve only got to wear them once so far… Rainy season has begun in Vancouver, and there’s not a single chance I’m whipping them out in the rain.

P.S. No I didn’t buy two pairs. My older sister actually bought the rose gold pair the same time I bought the silver pair. I ain’t that ballin’.

What do you think about the Anouck boots?
