They softened the pleats and added in a satin stripe down the side and made my favourite trouser pant even better. I love how the stripe added a menswear/tuxedo vibe to the look so I wanted to build a look around that vibe. Not going to lie this look made me feel strong, confident, and a little edgy. I think it’d be a great one for a girls night out or dinner at a hip, fancy restaurant. What’s your go-to girl boss look?

I styled these sleek trousers with an old crisp white cotton dress shirt from Talula. I know some people are going to speak up about the wrinkles and creases in it but I actually love the look of a creased white dress shirt. Especially with a messy look like this one, I think it brings character. I left the one too many buttons open to give a peak to the smooth spandex bralette that I’m wearing underneath. This outfit would also look great with a lace bralette but I wanted to avoid looking too promiscuous on a sunny Sunday.

I wore my favourite menswear inspired coat, the Stedman coat, which I think totally completes the look. I really wanted to capture a “rolled out of bed to conquer the world” look and I think the Stedman is what adds that “girl boss” feel. Throw on a killer pair of booties or heels and you’re ready to take over the world! My shoes are from Browns by Mimosa

Hope everyone is having a productive week so far!

Until next time,

At The Night Show (Affordable Athleisure) https://speakoftheangel.com/at-the-night-show/ https://speakoftheangel.com/at-the-night-show/#respond Wed, 15 Feb 2017 20:46:31 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3796 Initially discovered this “lit” spot from my friend Vernice’s Instagram so I thought I would go check it out myself. It’s the building next to the neon sign on Pender that says “Jack Chow Insurance”. The light up background makes for a great backdrop and I’m glad I beared the cold to shoot here. I’ll include a map at the bottom of this post if you want to know how to get there.

Athleisure has become more and more prominent in Vancouver’s fashion scene in the last year but I think this year it really has stolen the spotlight. Vancouver has always been a city full of athletic-wear clad active, healthy individuals anyways. So I think that is a huge reason why we’ve adopted the comfort and versatility of athleisure so easily. For me personally, some how hoodies have made its way back into my closet. I love pairing a simple hoodie with a coat for a more “normcore” look, or with a bomber for a more relaxed “chill” look.

My favourite bomber lately has been this one from Zaful. It’s very affordable, which is always a plus, and actually surprised me with its quality. It’s been a staple this winter as Vancouver has been unnaturally cold. The inside of the jacket is actually quilted and padded so it retains body heat extremely well. There is also an extra pocket on the inside of the jacket which has been a life saver for my phone especially since the battery life has significantly decreased due to the cold. (Apple… DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLEASE).

Zaful also always has discount codes hiding around their site so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for that. Here’s one that I found as I was leaving the site for 15% off. The code is “ZFCB01”. Enjoy!

Hope you guys are having a great week so far!

Comfortable in Aritzia https://speakoftheangel.com/comfortable-in-aritzia/ https://speakoftheangel.com/comfortable-in-aritzia/#respond Fri, 18 Nov 2016 20:55:25 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3486 I am currently curled up in a corner in the backroom of my work writing this blogpost. This is all that my life has consisted of lately. Wake up, school, work, gym (sometimes), sleep. I am definitely someone who lives for schedules. I love planning things. I love knowing exactly what I’ll be doing the next day, and the day after that, and over the weekend. I just like being in control of my life. The moments I feel the most lost and helpless is when I start losing control…

But lately, with my schedule and forthcoming end-of-semester due-dates and exams, I feel like I haven’t had anytime to myself and to do the things that I want to do. And oh man I’ve just been feeling so de-motivated :'( .

So what I’m trying to say is I’m sorry that all my content lately has been iphone quality and shot outside of my school. I’ve been trying to use all the decently “aesthetically pleasing” parts of my school.

img_0419img_0421 img_0418 img_0417

I know I’ve mentioned these pants before but they are just awesome. Very few dress pants from Aritzia actually fit me the way I want them to because I have proportionately larger thighs and calves than waist so I am always between sizes. These “dressy joggers” are actually supposed to fit long and loose but I actually quite like how it fits on me. They come up a little higher, right above my ankles, and have a drawstring waist. They definitely barely fit the “trouser”/”dress pant” category but the fabric definitely dresses it up a bit.

And then of course I had to buy yet another thin turtleneck shirt. I actually own this exact shirt in three colours now… it’s an issue. But honestly it’s the comfiest, softest shirt I own. I think it’s the perfect “chill” shirt for school over jeans, trousers, joggers, you name it. The colour that I’m wearing above is Twine. I also own it in Tuscan Olive and Heather Ashen.

I recently finally upgraded my camera and bought a new lens so I’m hoping that’ll be more than enough motivation to get me creating content again. The only thing I’m missing is time, but we can figure that out somehow.

Hope school is going well for all my student readers out there. I feel your pain… We can do this together :'(

And to those who don’t have school, GET EXCITED! Holiday season is upon us!

Chill Wars https://speakoftheangel.com/chill-wars/ https://speakoftheangel.com/chill-wars/#respond Wed, 16 Nov 2016 04:10:45 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3468 Okay first of all, these photos were taken from my friend’s Iphone 7 plus with the “portrait” depth function. CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THIS FOR A SECOND. If you were wondering what the second lens on the 7 plus does this is it. And I’m not going to lie, it’s definitely making me consider upgrading my phone. She quickly helped me snap a few pictures between classes and this is how they turned out (I played around with the contrast and brightness a little bit on VSCO). But can you imagine how beautiful photos would be if you actually took the time to take nice photos with this lens? AMAZING phone camera quality. Apple is killing it.

Okay moving on….

I definitely have been feeling a little demotivated lately with creating fresh outfits. I don’t know whether it’s because of school and all the hectic deadlines or what, but OH MAN is it hard to think of outfit ideas in the morning. So today I decided to find a way to NOT sacrifice my lazy school vibes while still looking like I put effort in my outfit planning. What do you think? Did it work?

img_0364 img_0363

Gave the whole DIY thing a try with this t-shirt. You can’t tell since I’ve got two thick layers on top plus dark-wash denim on but the cutout at the neckline isn’t the only one. I also snipped a couple of smaller holes randomly throughout the t-shirt, and I detached a part of the seam at the bottom of the shirt as well to give it that torn-up look. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on it lately so I might potentially dedicate an entire blogpost on how I created the distressed look. Let me know if you’d like to see that!

I’ve kept my Levis denim jacket in the back of my closet for a couple months now because unless I wear a thick sweater underneat, it hasn’t been keeping me warm enough to wear in November. But since at school I’m mostly indoors I decided to just throw a coat over top of it and wear it anyways. Turns out I actually kind of dig the long coat over short jacket look. I think it added some cool dimension to the otherwise basic look.

I have all these ideas for shoots in my head but 0 motivation nor time to do it. Does anyone else go through these funks now and again? What do you do to surpass it? SOS FAM.

Florica. https://speakoftheangel.com/florica/ https://speakoftheangel.com/florica/#respond Wed, 02 Nov 2016 01:00:04 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2991 My leather jacket obsession definitely started from my mother. She used to buy these crazy leathers in different colours and styles. I especially remember one bright orange leather jacket that she owned and wore every single day for ages. Although I definitely have not gotten as brave as my mom with the statement jackets, I’ve definitely picked up her love.

This is my third leather that I’ve bought for myself and I am absolutely obsessed! I know what you guys are thinking… Angel you already own the Mackage Rumer jacket (which is pretty much the pebbled leather version of this jacket) so why in the world did you buy the Florica. WELL MY FRIENDS… because it’s an obsession I guess.

img_0561

This is how I justified it: Although the cut of the jacket is almost identical to the Rumer, because it is made with a softer calfskin leather, it embodies a much more relaxed look than the thick pebbled leather of the Rumer. I find that my Rumer is the perfect jacket to dress up any look due to its loud pebbled leather and bright silver hardware. Everything on the Florica is much more toned-down, from the gunmetal hardware to the smooth leather. It moulds into any outfit perfectly rather than stand alone as a statement piece like the Rumer does.

And that’s more than enough of a reason for me to invest in this beauty ♥_♥

img_0562 img_0553 img_0563img_0545img_0550

If any of you were wondering I bought a XXS in the Florica because it does fit a lot looser than the Rumer due to the Calfskin. I’ve also learned my lesson with my Kenya jacket, which is made of the same beautiful leather as the Florica, that calfskin tends to stretch A LOT more than the thicker pebbled leather. So taking that in mind I went for the smallest size so that it’ll stretch and mould to my body as I wear it. Between the 3 Mackage leathers, I definitely have always loved my Rumer the most.  But I’m not going to lie, I can sense that I will be reaching for the Florica A LOT as well due to its versatility and muted, but still badass, vibe.

Oh and if you were wondering, my top is from Aritzia, jeans are by BDG from Urban Outfitters, and shoes are Alexander Wang!

Hope you guys are having a good week so far! Happy hump day!

Denim Skirts for Fall https://speakoftheangel.com/denim-skirts-fall/ https://speakoftheangel.com/denim-skirts-fall/#respond Mon, 19 Sep 2016 01:11:04 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2937 Vancouver’s weather been surprisingly tame so far. Minus the two days of rain earlier on this weekend, we’ve actually been having a warm, sunny autumn. Hope this is our gift from mother nature considering how lame the weather was this summer.

So of course nice weather = bare legs. That’s a given right? Been loving this skirt from Rose Wholesale, one of the inexpensive trendy clothes retailers that I mentioned in an earlier post. I originally wanted to buy the Aritzia denim skirt that they came out with in the summer BUT considering this one was less than half the price…I made a smarter buy.

Rosewholesale denim skirt 2rw1 Rosewholesale denim skirt 3rw3Rosewholesale denim skirt

I’ve been wearing this skirt to death with every variety of top you can think of. This black tight shirt that’s from Zara ($20!!) and my Aritzia Talula tight turtleneck have been my go-tos for this type of weather. When it’s a little bit warmer I opt for a silky camisole or a basic t-shirt.

And then of course booties are a must in the fall whether or not its chilly out. Been wearing my Raya boots from Public Desire the most out of all my booties! The heel height is a littler higher than I am used to for booties but I’ve been getting more and more used to wearing heels (YAY ME!).

This has been one of my go-to “trendy” fall outfits this september. I throw this on whenever I feel the need to look the part of a blogger. Fake it ’til you make it right? HA.

Hope you guys enjoyed this outfit!

Back to School Coziness with Bench https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/ https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:14:58 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2900 School is in full swing and my 8am lectures are definitely starting to wear me out. I swear I’ve been giving myself less and less time to get ready in the morning, which means my outfits have been getting more simple by the day. Which is totally fine by me because typically the more simple the outfit, the comfier it is. I have been catching myself online shopping for sweater dresses and other cozy one pieces that I can just throw on and go. One piece that I’ve been searching for for a while is a oversized sweat-shirt that I can wear as a dress. Fortunately Bench has got me covered because they just launched a sweat-shirt dress with their new Fall line and it is exactly what I was looking for.

If there was ever a time to say “I literally can’t even”, this would be it. This dress is the epitome of back-to-school comfort and I see the danger of over-wearing this during the school year. But thankfully it’s actually a cute piece along with being cozy, and I think I could actually style this a couple different ways so it doesn’t seem like I’m wearing the exact same thing every single day.

I can see this dress coming in handy during midterms/finals season because it’ll be a no-brainer outfit that I can even sleep in! And that, my friends, is a MAJOR KEY to exam season success.

You can find the Bench sweatshirt dress here ! It also comes in a dusty blue colour that I feel like I should probably cop as well. If you’re wondering about sizing, I actually went up a size in this dress so that it’d be EXTRA over-sized and sleeping-bag like. I’m 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh about 125 lbs and I went with a medium in this dress. Hope that helps if you’re planning to order online!

So that’s all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Back to School https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school/ https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school/#respond Wed, 07 Sep 2016 01:08:18 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2838 I still cannot believe that summer is officially over and school has started. It felt like just a couple of weeks ago that I was slaving away trying to maintain my sanity for my 7 finals that were jam-packed in one week. The only thing that I’m actually excited about is that I can finally wear fall clothes! Hello layering, goodbye shorts and tanks!

Something else that I’m super excited about is actually my collaboration with Maison Simons. They let me shop their Twik line, which is one of their more junior house brands, and pick out some back to school essentials! So here’s my first outfit for back to school!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with s2 preset

Both the sweater vest and the sleeveless top are from Simons. I’ve been obsessed with vests for fall and this one is right up my alley. I love that it’s light grey and the knit is super light which I think is perfect for throwing over a light turtleneck or long sleeve shirt. It was actually kind of warm today so wearing it with this sleeveless top was perfect.

As for the white top itself I chose it mainly for tucking into trousers or skirts for a clean, preppy look. I love how it pairs with the Buffon trousers from Aritziasimons

I know everyone wants to be comfortable for those early morning classes but I think you could definitely still look cute while being comfy and cozy. This would be a perfect example of a ‘cute scrub’ outfit that I would throw on for those days I don’t want to bother with denim and leather and whatnot. I definitely saw a lot more items at Simons that I would want for school or for just everyday so I’m going to be making another trip there soon!

Also did you know that they carry some hard to find brands in their contemporary section as well? They sell Acne Studios and even Comme de Garcon! (I’ve been eyeing down the Comme de Garcon and Converse collabs for a long time so I think I might have to pick them up there!)

Let me know how your first day of school was and what you wore!
