There has been culottes, trousers, blazers, and even trench coats trending in this navy and white pinstripe pattern. My favourite by far has to be this dress shirt from Aritzia. Something about the way the fabric hangs as well as the slightly baggy silhouette, really satisfies my menswear to womenswear obsession. I also love wearing it buttoned halfway and off one or both shoulders to give it an effortless messy look.

I paired this shirt with a pair of distressed vintage Levis cut-off shorts and my mom’s Stuart Weitzman loafers. And for those of you wondering, I have the BIGGEST struggle buying pre-cut vintage shorts that most retailers carry now. I literally have to try on about ten pairs before I can find even one that fits me semi-decently. So if you also have that struggle… don’t worry. It’s not just you.

This weekend is Canada Day weekend so to all of my Canadians out there, Happy Canada Day! And have a wicked long weekend.

Until next time,

On Edge https://speakoftheangel.com/on-edge/ https://speakoftheangel.com/on-edge/#respond Sun, 14 Aug 2016 06:57:24 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2679 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Definitely a favourite from my recent clothing hauls, is this amazing semi-sheer oversized black tshirt/dress (the Recurrant B top) from Bench. It’s hard to tell in these edits but this piece is actually an extremely lightweight almost knit-like top that’s semi-sheer. I’ve been loving pairing this with my Levis denim cutoff shorts and just a bralette underneath. I love how you can see the bralette peeking through a tiny bit, giving the outfit a little bit of an edge. IMG_0366Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 preset IMG_0368Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

I also love how this top looks slightly tucked into jeans or shorts cause it automatically goes from dressy to a “my boyfriend’s tshirt” kind of vibe. I actually bought the top in an XS since it was so oversized and it fit perfectly as a t-shirt dress without being too large to the point that I’m drowning in fabric. Also I think since it’s such a lightweight, flowy material, it actually drapes on the body in a really flattering way. I find that usually with super oversized items, when the fabric is too stiff the shirt will often look awkward around my shoulders. But since this just sits on my shoulders and drops where my shoulders do (rather than where the seam is) it actually is a great fit.

I paired this piece with my vintage Levis cutoffs and my classic Mimosa heels from Browns. For jewelry I threw on a couple of super simple silver pieces to push the look to an even edgier feel. My cuff is from Hermes and my choker is from Simons. And my bag is from Aritzia.

Hope you guys are having a great week! I think I only have one more post planned until you’ll be bombarded with LA blogs and videos so stay tuned!

Until next time loves,

Yall know I can’t resist a good DARK outfit. Even in the middle of summer I couldn’t resist this outfit. And noooo it’s not an all black outfit. I know it’s hard to tell but I swear my dress and my nails are a dark wine/burgundy :3

I’m wearing it here as a light summer jacket over a simple slip dress. But once buttoned up it changes the look entirely and is such a slick piece. I’m thinking for the fall/winter I’m going to throw a big turtle neck over it and wear like a sweater/skirt combo. I’ve already got endless outfits planned out for it and I’ve only had it for about a week *HEART EYES*. You guys should know by now that I’m ALL about versatile pieces and this is as versatile as it gets!Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset IMG_0361Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Bench just dropped a whole bunch of new clothes that I am loving and I can’t wait to share some of it with you!

Mom Jeans and Camel https://speakoftheangel.com/mom-jeans-camel/ https://speakoftheangel.com/mom-jeans-camel/#comments Thu, 31 Mar 2016 07:05:48 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1713 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Camel easily transitioned from Fall/Winter to Spring this year and I’m LOVING IT. Was hunting for the perfect Camel coat this Fall and couldn’t find one for the life of me. BUT was lucky enough to find this Oak and Fort cardigan from their Spring collection that works great with the transitional weather that we’re in now!

I love how the long sleek cardigan looks over top of my casual mom jeans and white tee combo. I think it gives the look a more feminine feel. I pulled it all together with my camel Aldo ankle booties and my big black clutch from Aritzia. I love the slouchy, comfy fit of this outfit!

I’ve got to admit, mom jeans have definitely stolen the spotlight from boyfriend jeans. I like that they’re typically mid- or high-waisted and are a little bit more fitted around the bum and the hips than your average boyfriend jean. I find that it flatters the female body a little more while still giving off that awesome slouchy/baggy denim look. The pair that I’m wearing here are from Brandy Melville and are my favorite! the denim is stiff which is nice because it keeps its shape. It also hits me perfectly mid waist and above the ankles! Not to mention they actually fit my calves really well! I think they’re meant to be a little baggier looking but I actually love how they’re more fitted on my thicker legs. It’s actually quite hard for me to find boyfriend and mom jeans that fit me the right way, so these are a blessing.

Although I am CRAVING hot weather and short-shorts, I am actually quite enjoying this chilly but not cold, warm but not hot Spring weather. Lets me mix my warm and cold weather clothing for some light comfy outfits and I’ve been loving it!

Can’t wait for more sunny days.

I’ve been completely obsessed with having plants in my room lately. To the point where I’ve dedicated a shelf top and a wall shelf to my adorable little plant family. So far I’ve already got 9 different little babies living with me in my room.

While on the hunt for more to add to my collection of succulents, aloes, and cactis I discovered Southland Nurseries. Literally a 5 minute drive from my place, Southlands Nursery is tucked away on W49th Ave south of Marine Drive. I’ve lived in Kerrisdale for a little over 4 years now, and have been going to school in the area for 10 years and I’ve never even heard of this gem! However, I was clearly the only one out of the loop because the place was bustling when I visited on Saturday afternoon. Definitely a place to keep in mind if you’re looking to start a garden or add some indoor plants to your home. They’ve also got really knowledgeable staff who can tell you everything you need to know about home gardening or taking care of plants.

They’ve got an AMAZING selection cacti and succulents!! I found everything I needed there.

For this little Saturday afternoon plant therapy session I wore my Talula denim jacket with a cute thin sweatshirt underneath. Paired with a light crossbody bag and my cream and white Stan Smith sneakers, I thought it was the perfect “beginning of spring” outfit.

What are your current favorite spring outfits? Let me know!

New Kicks On The Block https://speakoftheangel.com/new-kicks-on-the-block/ https://speakoftheangel.com/new-kicks-on-the-block/#respond Wed, 13 Jan 2016 07:28:28 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1486 IMG_2393 IMG_2387 IMG_2389 IMG_2386 IMG_2391

On my most recent trip down to the states I picked up these snake print Adidas SL Loop. I definitely noticed these before but never really knew whether it was worth spending the money on. However, I got lucky, during my trip to Portland I saw these for a discounted price at Nordstrom Rack. I’ve definitely been on a sneaker kick since this past summer and I’ve acquired 5 different pairs of sneakers since the May… Yikes. But since sneakers are actually all the rage right now, it’s the perfect time for me to lounge around in as many different sneakers as I can. Comfort + style. What could be better.

I love how these pop with a good black outfit. They really do stand out yet the pattern is still subtle. I paired this near-all-black ensemble with a light washed denim jacket which I think helps break up all the darkness. Inside I’m wearing a really simple, crew-neck sweater and I’m using my Matt & Nat backpack.

This is a pretty good representation of what kind of outfit I usually go for when I’ve got class to attend. I find that the all black makes it look trendy still but I’m still super comfortable and cozy for those cold lecture halls.

How do you like to wear your sneakers?

BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK https://speakoftheangel.com/black-is-the-new-black/ https://speakoftheangel.com/black-is-the-new-black/#respond Mon, 21 Sep 2015 07:34:26 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1263 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Once again reiterating my love for black, here’s another #schoolfit for you guys.

My Iphone couldn’t pick up the colours (or should I say shades) I was wearing perfectly, but my coat and turtleneck was actually a dark grey colour. Nonetheless, I was still wearing quite a dark ensemble on that particular day.

I really think I’ve given up on wearing colours all together. Yes I have a few colourful pieces sitting in my closet still (like my baby pink bomber and my army green parka), but generally I’ve really been trying to stick to neutrals and shades. I feel like it’s definitely helped minimize the time I take to get ready in the morning by just a little bit. I mean let’s be real. Black always goes with black. Especially when I’m rushing out the door to make my 8:30 am class, I definitely do not have the spare time to be thinking “hmmm, I wonder if this blue matches with my outfit.”

Boots are also a great thing for school. Here I’m wearing my Stuart Weitzman 50/50 boots, which are a little more special that my average shoe. But usually I’m roaming around in booties, which I think always ties my outfits together.

SCHOOL DAZE https://speakoftheangel.com/school-daze/ https://speakoftheangel.com/school-daze/#respond Fri, 18 Sep 2015 18:28:54 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1256 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

School is officially in full swing, and my outfits have definitely been geared more towards comfort and warmth than fashion. I’m still trying to avoid sweat pants and UGGs as best as possible, but who knows how long I can keep that up.

One way I keep “stylish” at school is by dressing super monotone. I find that it helps ensure that you look put together. When in doubt, wear all black. It makes it seem like you put more effort in your outfit than you actually did.

Another great fall trend that I have found works great for school are fur vests. The one I’m wearing in this outfit is actually from Zara kids (HA). I saw it while browsing the kids section for my younger sister a few years ago, and liked it so much I bought it in a size large. And guess what, it fit perfectly and was WAY cheaper than the adult fur vests. Who would’ve thought?! Wearing a fur vest with a sweater underneath looks on-trend and keeps you DAMN warm and comfortable. DOUBLE WIN.

Let me know how you keep fashionable at school! I’m definitely going to run out of ideas soon and start binge-wearing flannels and sweatpants. SOS.
