Ever since leaving BCIT and starting in my career, I’ve lost the interest of going out and partying. I value my bedtime too much and refuse to go trade a good night’s sleep for the club or bar.

I realize how totally boring that makes me sound, especially being someone who’s 23. BUT everyone lives different lifestyles and mine just happens to have most of my activities happen during the day time.

But just because I don’t love going out, doesn’t mean I don’t love “going out” clothes.

In spirit of my ex-going out life and for those who still do (power to ya girl), here’s an outfit that I would’ve worn out to a girls night out!

Bright colours have made its way back into being popular in fashion. Especially colours like red and orange—colours I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing just a few years ago. I moved to a very minimal clothing colour palette since about 4 years ago. Definitely happy to be slowly re-introducing pieces that provide pops of colour to my outfit.

A recent item that I bought being this red ribbed tube top from Urban Outfitters. I am OBSESSED. I think it pairs so nicely with my Citizens of Humanity Liya denim. And of course, no going out outfit is complete for me without my Mackage Florica Jacket from Aritzia.

Until next time,

Angel Zheng

Darker for Spring https://speakoftheangel.com/darker-for-spring/ https://speakoftheangel.com/darker-for-spring/#respond Sun, 26 Mar 2017 22:50:15 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3852 This has been the most bipolar beginning of spring that we’ve had in Vancouver in a while. There was snow, hail, rain, and sleet. So the days that it’s actually sunny outside… I literally RUN outside and try to wear as little layers as possible without getting sick.

Have I mentioned that I’ve finally started my internship! I’ve been looking forward to these next 9 weeks since the start of my program and it’s unbelievable that it’s finally here. I already know I’m going to learn so much at this agency. Not to mention having a set schedule every day completes me. Been able to reset my internal alarm clock (finally) and so I’m finally feeling like myself again. Whenever my sleeping schedule gets messed up I feel like my life is falling to crap. Dramatic, I know.

The Zara jacket that I’m wearing was actually a hand-me-down from Mary. It’s a great casual throw over for days I need to just run out the door. The leather sleeves help with dressing outfits up which I think is SO necessary on lazy days. Pulled out an old favourite, my colour-blocked Oak and Fort t-shirt. And then of course I wore Citizens of Humanity Rocket jeans. This wash is the Rocket Ventana.

Trying to elevate my style has not been an easy task. Can’t help but want to throw on a t-shirt and jeans combo and go. Anyone else wish they had a stylist sometime?

More soon,

Layering Up https://speakoftheangel.com/layering-up/ https://speakoftheangel.com/layering-up/#respond Thu, 24 Nov 2016 08:34:32 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3508 I forgot how difficult it is to stay stylish when it’s freezing outside :'( . It takes all I have to resist the urge to wear the same non-distressed denim and thick sweater every day. But since it’s the week of black friday work has been crazy busy which means it matters more than usual how I present myself. Hence the try-hard outfits.

I found out this week the key to dressing semi-stylish in the winter is just to own some really long coats and super warm bombers. Because really you probably will be spending most of your time indoors somewhere anyways.. so throw a thick jacket over a cute outfit and BAM. Winter ready. Unless you’re hanging out outside then my tip to you is just to layer on as many layers as humanly possible.

img_0502 fullsizerender-3

For my outfit I just layered a really long coat over top of my outfit. Inside, I’m wearing my Gordon camisole from Aritzia which is a classic 90s straight neckline cami. I tucked it into my Citizens of Humanity Liyas which are a light-washed mom jean style. Threw my camel long cardigan and a pair of black booties on and I was good to go. Most of the time, indoors, that was what I was wearing. When I had to actually go outside and bear the cold I threw this new coat that I found from Winners on and my Herringbone scarf from Aritzia. And you know what… I didn’t freeze to death today! So I think my first “winter” outfit was a success!

img_0499 img_0496

By the way, a lot of clothing is already on sale on the Aritzia website right now so go and spend some money! And do me a favour and BUY ONLINE. So us poor girls can clean up the store and leave work at a godly hour. KTHNXBYE.

Chill Wars https://speakoftheangel.com/chill-wars/ https://speakoftheangel.com/chill-wars/#respond Wed, 16 Nov 2016 04:10:45 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3468 Okay first of all, these photos were taken from my friend’s Iphone 7 plus with the “portrait” depth function. CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THIS FOR A SECOND. If you were wondering what the second lens on the 7 plus does this is it. And I’m not going to lie, it’s definitely making me consider upgrading my phone. She quickly helped me snap a few pictures between classes and this is how they turned out (I played around with the contrast and brightness a little bit on VSCO). But can you imagine how beautiful photos would be if you actually took the time to take nice photos with this lens? AMAZING phone camera quality. Apple is killing it.

Okay moving on….

I definitely have been feeling a little demotivated lately with creating fresh outfits. I don’t know whether it’s because of school and all the hectic deadlines or what, but OH MAN is it hard to think of outfit ideas in the morning. So today I decided to find a way to NOT sacrifice my lazy school vibes while still looking like I put effort in my outfit planning. What do you think? Did it work?

img_0364 img_0363

Gave the whole DIY thing a try with this t-shirt. You can’t tell since I’ve got two thick layers on top plus dark-wash denim on but the cutout at the neckline isn’t the only one. I also snipped a couple of smaller holes randomly throughout the t-shirt, and I detached a part of the seam at the bottom of the shirt as well to give it that torn-up look. I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on it lately so I might potentially dedicate an entire blogpost on how I created the distressed look. Let me know if you’d like to see that!

I’ve kept my Levis denim jacket in the back of my closet for a couple months now because unless I wear a thick sweater underneat, it hasn’t been keeping me warm enough to wear in November. But since at school I’m mostly indoors I decided to just throw a coat over top of it and wear it anyways. Turns out I actually kind of dig the long coat over short jacket look. I think it added some cool dimension to the otherwise basic look.

fullsizerender img_0368 img_0367

I have all these ideas for shoots in my head but 0 motivation nor time to do it. Does anyone else go through these funks now and again? What do you do to surpass it? SOS FAM.

Early Fall ft. Simplee Apparel https://speakoftheangel.com/early-fall-ft-simplee-apparel/ https://speakoftheangel.com/early-fall-ft-simplee-apparel/#respond Wed, 07 Sep 2016 15:36:37 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2853 Gotta love a good early fall outfit. Especially one that involves a faux suede vest! This was a perfect ‘early September chilly day’ outfit. Most of the warmth was brought from my non-distressed jeans and my Talula Hackney t-shirt. The vest from Simplee Apparel was the key to tying together this super simple outfit and bringing in some trendiness to an otherwise plain outfit. I also threw on my double ended western belt from Simplee to add a little bit of detail to the outfit and also to break up the dark top and bottom combo. Without the silver from the belt I found that the shirt blended in with my jeans a little too much. Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Super happy I got to discover Simplee apparel on Aliexpress. I’ve been shopping on Aliexpress for quite some time now but sometimes it gets difficult to find a shop that you can trust for quality. With so many different sellers on the e-commerce website, it definitely takes a while to sift through all the different reviews to find a trustworthy store to buy from. I’ve ordered three things from Simplee so far and the quality has correlated to the price really well. The vest for example is something I would’ve probably had to pay $50+ in stores at a different place but only paid $34 for on Simplee apparel. Same with the belt. although it wasn’t real leather, I’ve been looking for a stylish double ended belt for quite sometime now and this one was only $8 !

I’ve been eyeing a couple more pieces lately and definitely think I’ll be ordering from them again!

I also absolutely loved how my skinny ankle boots from Public Desire looked with the outfit! I wanted to keep things really streamline and sleek and I think the boots definitely helped complete that vibe. I’ve been really loving pairing these babies with my fall outfits. I think it adds a touch of sophistication to an outfit because of its classic shape.

What do you guys think? Loving the early fall weather or dreading the chilliness?

Current Favourites https://speakoftheangel.com/current-favourites/ https://speakoftheangel.com/current-favourites/#respond Wed, 20 Jul 2016 06:52:31 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2399 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

While trying to figure out what I should name this post/write about, I kind of noticed that I was wearing a lot of the items that I have been glued to lately. Actually, it seems like I’ve really just thrown together a bunch of things that I’ve been loving and called it an outfit… so VOILA! Here are my current favourites, OOTD style!

So let’s start from top to bottom (or head to toe if you will).

1. My HAIR. My pitch black, “for the night is dark and full of terrors” hair! (still obsessing over GOT clearly…). But all jokes aside, I haven’t been this happy with my hair in what seems like ages. Having an ombre, and trying to have an ashy ombre, was probably the most high maintenance thing I’ve done my entire life. Not to mention I looked like every other Asian chick with ombre hair. But ever since I’ve dyed my hair back to black, I’ve felt so much happier and more confident with my look! And really that’s the whole point of changing your hair colour right? To feel good about yourself? Funny how I felt the happiest with myself when I went back to my natural hair colour… Who would’ve thunk it?

2. CHOKERS. I honestly didn’t think I would get into this trend… but then again I don’t think I’m going to get into a lot of trends yet I still end up looking like every other “on-trend” blogger there is (oops!). Honestly at first I was SO uncomfortable with how it felt against my neck. Like I mean I really understood why they’re called “CHOKErs”. But honestly after a couple wears (took me about like 2 weeks) you really do forget that it’s there. And now sometimes I feel bare without one. The one that I’m wearing is actually a belt from one of my dresses! So if you’re not down to spend 15-20 bucks on a piece of string, check your closet!

3. My Hermes BANGLE. Well… technically it’s not MY bangle. It’s my mom’s Hermes bangle that she got as a birthday gift a couple years ago. But it’s recently become one of my favourite jewelry pieces to wear EVER. I’ve pretty much discovered that it goes with practically every outfit I own so it has made a home on my wrist for pretty much this entire summer. I’m obsessed with it and I think it goes really well with my personal style. I don’t think my mom will be getting this baby back for a while (love you mom).

4. Urban Outfitters BELT: You have no idea how long I’ve been looking for a good quality, western-styled belt. When I saw this amazing genuine leather one at UO I knew I had to get it. It’s actually a size large but I went out to my local Daiso and bought a cheap leather hole punch. Now I can DIY the sizes of all my belts! I find that this is also one of those pieces that I throw on with almost all my outfits now-a-days to bring together an outfit. So don’t be surprised if you see it plenty more OOTDs!

5. Citizens of Humanity Liya JEANS: Comfiest. Jeans. EVER. Citizens of Humanity jeans have been my favourite branded jeans for a while now and are known to make comfortable denim. They really outdid themselves with the Liyas though. They are a modern twist of the classic mom jeans style and have the softest fabric I’ve ever felt on a pair of denim. I’ve pretty much been wearing these non-stop. And because they’re such a simple, versatile style they really go with so many different outfits.

6. Mimosa SHOESI have been eyeing these down for AGES but never could bite the bullet to spend $200 on a pair of heels that I may never wear. I am definitely more of a sneakers/booties girl so I was worried these would turn out to be like every other pair of heels I own… A.K.A sitting on my shoe shelf looking pretty and collecting dust. However, every single one of my girlfriends who own this shoe says it is the comfiest heel they own so I thought I would give it a try, in hopes of finding a “comfortable heel”… AND I DID. I was actually able to do a 6 hour shift in these babies so they are definitely tried and tested!

Hope you guys enjoyed this more text-filled post and let me know what your current favourites closet items are! And if you were wondering where this cute backdrop is, it’s the McArthurGlen designer outlet by the YVR airport in Vancouver! There are so many perfect backdrops for shooting there so definitely check it out if you’re looking for interesting places to shoot. Not to mention you can do some shopping while you’re there!

Bomber Daze https://speakoftheangel.com/bomber-daze/ https://speakoftheangel.com/bomber-daze/#respond Wed, 06 Jul 2016 04:07:32 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2284 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

One of my favourite items from the Peace Collective line right now are their bombers. They actually have 2 or 3 different styles of bombers. They have their Canadian Built Quilted bomber, a Home is Toronto one, and my favourite, the silky looking Home is Canada Varsity bomber.

I actually wasn’t sure I’d like this jacket until I saw and touched it in real life. The jacket is actually amazing quality; thick, warm, and SILKY. I think that’s one of my favourite features about it, is it’s silky, shiny outer material. *HEART EYES*. I think it gives the oversized boyfriend bomber a more girly vibe.

I never really thought I’d be the patriotic type to wearing the words “home is Canada” or “Canadian built” on my apparel. But Peace Collective did such an amazing job incorporating these phrases on their super street style clothes that it makes me happy to rep Canada all day every day.

I wanted to style this jacket super casually and in an outfit that I could wear all year round in Vancouver. I paired it with my comfy Bench tee and the classic Citizens of Humanity Rocket Indie jeans. To stick with the comfy vibes I capped off the outfit with all white Stan Smiths. All in all I’d say this is my perfect, go-to, chill/school/errands outfit.

To The Tee https://speakoftheangel.com/to-the-tee/ https://speakoftheangel.com/to-the-tee/#respond Fri, 24 Jun 2016 05:54:40 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2149 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I feel like the older I get, the more I’m starting to lean back towards classic pieces and neutral colours. Definitely went through a colours and prints phase in high school (goodbye forever hot pink tights and yellow skinny jeans) but I’m feeling more comfortable than ever being back in the basics. I feel like every wardrobe needs certain pieces to make it complete. A luxurious pair of denim, a classic leather jacket, a timeless purse, or even just a simple white tee.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

With all the different cuts and fabrics that exist with simple white tees nowadays, it’s actually kind of difficult to find that perfect white tee. And I’m definitely not saying there’s a PERFECT white tee that is going to meet ALL your needs and when you find it THAT’S IT. Nope. I own about 10 different white tees, and they’re all perfect in totally different ways. (Neurotic, I know.)

Recently, however, I have definitely been reaching for this ‘Spot Short Slv’ tee by Bench a bit more than my other tees. I really like the length of this tee and where it hits on my hips when I wear my mid-rise jeans (which is ALWAYS since it hasn’t actually been hot enough for shorts lately). Not to mention it’s incredibly soft and breathable which is perfect for Vancouver’s bipolar summer weather.

I also absolutely love the low-cut back of this tee (as shown here). I think it adds a unique factor to the shirt without compromising the simplicity of it which is always a plus in my books.

I dressed up my white ‘Spot Short Slv’ shirt with my Mackage ‘Rumer’ jacket as well as some cute sandals from H&M. This look is essentially a mash-up of all my closet staples, which pretty much creates my perfect go-to look. VOILA.

Hope you guys are having a really great week!
