fall – SPEAKOFTHEANGEL https://speakoftheangel.com Sun, 09 Sep 2018 19:24:57 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.1 82987084 Plaid Blazer Baby https://speakoftheangel.com/the-plaid-blazer/ https://speakoftheangel.com/the-plaid-blazer/#respond Sun, 09 Sep 2018 19:22:22 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5737 The Plaid Blazer

The plaid blazer trend has been popular for a while now but only has recently found its way into my heart. I’ve been rediscovering my love for simple outfit variations that are based around jeans and a t-shirt and my two inspirations as of late has been Claire Marshall and Aimee Song.

Aimee, specifically, rocks the blazer look as her go-to and I’m obsessed with the clean, feminine vibe that it gives. So, when Aritzia launched several new blazer styles in different patterns this season, I got way WAY excited.

I looked at a couple of different styles, but I knew I had to own the Margaux blazer in Mini Check Tannin/Blk first. It also comes in an amazing dark grey colour with blue striping, which I thought I would love so much more. But something about this warm, brownish pattern gives off the perfect vintage vibes and I knew I had to purchase this as my first piece for Fall 2018.

I’m a little sad that the weather has already started to cool so drastically in Vancouver. We have rain in the forecast for the next week so I’m a little sad that my denim skirt and blazer combo won’t be a viable outfit for much longer. But thankfully, it seems like it’ll look just as great with just regular jeans and booties—or so it seems on Pinterest. (Pinned a ton of different plaid blazer outfits on my FW18 board so go and check it out for more inspo!)

Can’t wait to style this baby so much more this fall, so be prepared to see it a LOT. What’s your favourite fall trend for 2018?

Sheinside Fall Wishlist https://speakoftheangel.com/sheinside-fall-wishlist/ https://speakoftheangel.com/sheinside-fall-wishlist/#respond Fri, 04 Nov 2016 15:43:09 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3032 Been thinking about ordering a few affordable fall pieces online lately. Been seeing lots of different styles and textures on Pinterest and it’s definitely been haunting me (and my wallet) a little. So I thought I would take a look online and see if I can find some new fall outfit inspos and I did! So thought I would share.

sh2

Yeezy anyone? Rather than spending over a grand on a distressed piece from the Yeezy line, just pick up this grey distressed sweater dress for US $29.99. I would wear this with a black bomber and black thigh-high boots for that certified Kimye look. Or opt for a light-coloured bootie and leather for a more casual fall look.

sh

I know this is definitely not your typical “fall” clothing item BUT I LOVE IT. This faux-velvet body suit makes all my 90s baby spice outfit dreams come true. I think this would pair amazingly with some mid/high-rise denim, and a slick leather moto. And then tie it all together with a cute black choker? DONE.

Oh did I mention this bad girl is US $11.99??!??!?!?!?

sh3

For some reason my style has been leaning more towards the casual side lately. Maybe its because school is finally getting to me, or maybe it’s because it’s actually started to get COLD here in Vancouver (which means no more skirts and thin, trendy pieces). But lately I’ve been collecting flannels, bombers, hoodies, and fleece lately.

One style I’ve been rocking is the cropped hoodies. I thought this would be a great addition to my current collection as this black one is a little longer than those mid-drift exposing ones that I’m seeing in stores right now. I know sometimes it’s a hit or miss with buying fleecey clothing online because you can’t tell whether it’s actually going to be thick and warm or not. But if I end up keeping this one in my cart I will definitely let you guys know. This hoodie is US$15.99 so honestly even if it was slightly thinner than expected I wouldn’t even be mad.

sh1

The choker look took the fashion world by storm and I definitely admit to hopping on to the bandwagon. I didn’t really get to explore that style when we were actually in the 90s (I was still a toddler back then) so I’m definitely glad the style has made its way back around. This grey sweater is a great play on that feature without being so blatantly “trendy”. The large cutout at the neckline gives it that “fake choker” look which I think could look really cute. I like how this simple detail adds something so interesting and different to look at.

You can cop this sweater for US $19.99!

sh4

This cut out sweater really caught my eye. This peice is a great representation of exactly the sort of stuff I look for when I buy items from websites like Sheinside. I try to look for items that are really trendy and out-there but still are super affordable in price. Like I’ve said before, I mostly buy from these websites for the style and not for the quality. I purely want to experiment with different looks and may not necessarily think that I’ll still love these pieces next fall. Don’t get me wrong, there are actually loads of basics on Sheinside that I could definitely love for years to come, but that’s not what I tend to look for shopping online. Anyways, this sweater costs US $21.99 (LIKE COME ON WOW) and I think I might have to give it a try. Like the grey sweater above, it gives off that “choker” look but is actually a large cutout by the neckline. The zippers on the sleeve is definitely a hit or miss I think but I like how it gives the sweater an edgier look. And for 20 bucks you can’t really go wrong.

And that’s my current fall-trends wishlist! Let me know if you guys like these posts and maybe I’ll do some more! My student budget doesn’t always allow me to constantly stay on top of the trends so I think this is a great way to 1) share some affordable options with you guys and 2) share some outfit inspos!

Florica. https://speakoftheangel.com/florica/ https://speakoftheangel.com/florica/#respond Wed, 02 Nov 2016 01:00:04 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2991 My leather jacket obsession definitely started from my mother. She used to buy these crazy leathers in different colours and styles. I especially remember one bright orange leather jacket that she owned and wore every single day for ages. Although I definitely have not gotten as brave as my mom with the statement jackets, I’ve definitely picked up her love.

This is my third leather that I’ve bought for myself and I am absolutely obsessed! I know what you guys are thinking… Angel you already own the Mackage Rumer jacket (which is pretty much the pebbled leather version of this jacket) so why in the world did you buy the Florica. WELL MY FRIENDS… because it’s an obsession I guess.

img_0561

This is how I justified it: Although the cut of the jacket is almost identical to the Rumer, because it is made with a softer calfskin leather, it embodies a much more relaxed look than the thick pebbled leather of the Rumer. I find that my Rumer is the perfect jacket to dress up any look due to its loud pebbled leather and bright silver hardware. Everything on the Florica is much more toned-down, from the gunmetal hardware to the smooth leather. It moulds into any outfit perfectly rather than stand alone as a statement piece like the Rumer does.

And that’s more than enough of a reason for me to invest in this beauty ♥_♥

img_0562 img_0553 img_0563img_0545img_0550

If any of you were wondering I bought a XXS in the Florica because it does fit a lot looser than the Rumer due to the Calfskin. I’ve also learned my lesson with my Kenya jacket, which is made of the same beautiful leather as the Florica, that calfskin tends to stretch A LOT more than the thicker pebbled leather. So taking that in mind I went for the smallest size so that it’ll stretch and mould to my body as I wear it. Between the 3 Mackage leathers, I definitely have always loved my Rumer the most.  But I’m not going to lie, I can sense that I will be reaching for the Florica A LOT as well due to its versatility and muted, but still badass, vibe.

Oh and if you were wondering, my top is from Aritzia, jeans are by BDG from Urban Outfitters, and shoes are Alexander Wang!

Hope you guys are having a good week so far! Happy hump day!

XOXO, Gossip Girl https://speakoftheangel.com/xoxo-gossip-girl/ https://speakoftheangel.com/xoxo-gossip-girl/#respond Mon, 24 Oct 2016 21:46:35 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2972 Every year when summer is ending and fall is beginning I always think to myself “this year I will wear a lot of skirts”. I love fall outfits that feature different skirts (a-line, leather, suede…<3) and constantly want to adopt those skirts into my cold weather wardrobe. However, as soon as the cold actually hits, skirts are pretty much the last thing I want to consider when picking what to wear in the morning! Thankfully we’ve still had some semi-not freezing days so I was able to bring out my Wilfred Free skirt from Aritzia for one last hurray before I stash it away for the winter. img_8450img_8428 untitled-2img_8431 img_8421 img_8420 untitled-3

This corduroy skirt quickly became one of my favourite pieces in my fall wardrobe. I love the neutral brown-ish green colour with the vintage looking buttons. It fits better than other a-line skirts that I’ve seen from other stores. I find that it’s actually really flattering around the bum area and is not too tight but not too flared. The only bone that I have to pick with this skirt is the length! It is quite a short skirt, but as long as you’re not wearing it to a business meeting you’re good to go! As I’ve mentioned before, cropped sweaters are another trendy fall piece that I’ve been obsessed with this season. This really nice scalloped-hem sweater is also from Aritzia and I think it pairs perfectly with this skirt. I had to size up two sizes for this sweater (bought a medium) because of how tight and cropped it is. But I think the medium is a perfect fit for me! It’s the perfect amount of loose and cuddly but also cropped and trendy. I’ll definitely be repeating this outfit a bunch this fall whenever I have the need to dress up.  Threw on tights because it was chilly still outside but also because it made me feel like Blair from Gossip Girl.

img_8423 I’ve just finished my midterms week (FINALLY) which is the reason I’ve been slacking on the blogposts. But I’m back! And ready to get shit done. So keep your eyes peeled for more outfit posts soon!

Hope you guys are having a great Monday.

Until next time,

Denim Skirts for Fall https://speakoftheangel.com/denim-skirts-fall/ https://speakoftheangel.com/denim-skirts-fall/#respond Mon, 19 Sep 2016 01:11:04 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2937 Vancouver’s weather been surprisingly tame so far. Minus the two days of rain earlier on this weekend, we’ve actually been having a warm, sunny autumn. Hope this is our gift from mother nature considering how lame the weather was this summer.

So of course nice weather = bare legs. That’s a given right? Been loving this skirt from Rose Wholesale, one of the inexpensive trendy clothes retailers that I mentioned in an earlier post. I originally wanted to buy the Aritzia denim skirt that they came out with in the summer BUT considering this one was less than half the price…I made a smarter buy.

Rosewholesale denim skirt 2rw1 Rosewholesale denim skirt 3rw3Rosewholesale denim skirt

I’ve been wearing this skirt to death with every variety of top you can think of. This black tight shirt that’s from Zara ($20!!) and my Aritzia Talula tight turtleneck have been my go-tos for this type of weather. When it’s a little bit warmer I opt for a silky camisole or a basic t-shirt.

And then of course booties are a must in the fall whether or not its chilly out. Been wearing my Raya boots from Public Desire the most out of all my booties! The heel height is a littler higher than I am used to for booties but I’ve been getting more and more used to wearing heels (YAY ME!).

This has been one of my go-to “trendy” fall outfits this september. I throw this on whenever I feel the need to look the part of a blogger. Fake it ’til you make it right? HA.

Hope you guys enjoyed this outfit!

Back to School Coziness with Bench https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/ https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:14:58 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2900 School is in full swing and my 8am lectures are definitely starting to wear me out. I swear I’ve been giving myself less and less time to get ready in the morning, which means my outfits have been getting more simple by the day. Which is totally fine by me because typically the more simple the outfit, the comfier it is. I have been catching myself online shopping for sweater dresses and other cozy one pieces that I can just throw on and go. One piece that I’ve been searching for for a while is a oversized sweat-shirt that I can wear as a dress. Fortunately Bench has got me covered because they just launched a sweat-shirt dress with their new Fall line and it is exactly what I was looking for.

If there was ever a time to say “I literally can’t even”, this would be it. This dress is the epitome of back-to-school comfort and I see the danger of over-wearing this during the school year. But thankfully it’s actually a cute piece along with being cozy, and I think I could actually style this a couple different ways so it doesn’t seem like I’m wearing the exact same thing every single day.

I can see this dress coming in handy during midterms/finals season because it’ll be a no-brainer outfit that I can even sleep in! And that, my friends, is a MAJOR KEY to exam season success.

You can find the Bench sweatshirt dress here ! It also comes in a dusty blue colour that I feel like I should probably cop as well. If you’re wondering about sizing, I actually went up a size in this dress so that it’d be EXTRA over-sized and sleeping-bag like. I’m 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh about 125 lbs and I went with a medium in this dress. Hope that helps if you’re planning to order online!

So that’s all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Favourite Fall 2016 Trends https://speakoftheangel.com/favourite-fall-2016-trends/ https://speakoftheangel.com/favourite-fall-2016-trends/#respond Fri, 09 Sep 2016 15:00:38 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2817 I’m currently trying to revamp my closet for fall 2016 which means out with in old and in with the new. Been trying to sell some of the fall pieces that I no longer love from last year to make space for all the pretty 2016 styles and colours. So as I have been redefining my fall style, I decided I would share with you guys my favourite fall 2016 styles that I’ve seen so far!

cropped sweater 2cropped sweater cs

Cropped Sweaters

This year I’m really try to stray away from the conventional chunky turtleneck knits and try out more “stylish” fall pieces such as cropped sweaters! Ever since I’ve converted to wearing pretty much only Citizens of Humanity Rocket jeans (which are a really nice mid/high-rise denim) and trousers that go up past my hips I’ve been more open to try cropped tops and sweaters. I love how cropped sweaters with a tight pair of trousers or jeans can still accentuate your figure in the cold still while keeping your nice and warm.

tight shirttsts2

Tight Shirts/Sweaters (for tucking)

Just as I love how cropped sweaters accentuate your waist, so does a tight shirt/sweater tucked into a high-waisted pair of pants. Last year my style was very baggy, relaxed, and casual and so this year I’m really trying to adopt a more feminine and sophisticated vibe. I especially have been loving tucking a tight shirt into an a-line skirt. I’ve been wearing my Karmen skirt from aritzia to death since I’ve gotten it. Been rewatching Gossip Girl and so I’ve definitely been inspired and influenced by Serena Vanderwoodsen’s preppy but sophisticated look.

vest vest2 vests

Vests

Definitely going to be a huge part of my early fall wardrobe, vests have become quite an obsession of mine in the past couple of months. Especially longer ones that almost look like a sleeveless coat. I love pairing these with both the cropped sweaters and tight shirts mentioned above. It hasn’t gotten cold enough yet to whip out the heavy parkas and coats yet in Vancouver, so vests have been my go-to as of late.

coat coat2 coat3

Men’s Style Coats

What I mean by ‘men’s style’ coats is something that’s slightly oversized and usually have small, suit-style lapels. I personally added the Aritzia Stedman coat to my collection this year (which is the camel one shown above except I bought the dark grey version of it). I’m set on buying at least one new coat every year so that my coat collection grows slowly but surely. I love how simple and clean the cut of these coats are and how they compliment any outfit. I could dress really preppy and feminine or be wearing baggy jeans and a t-shirt and this coat would still be the perfect addition.

So that wraps up my current favourite fall 2016 styles! Be sure to keep an eye out for some ootds featuring these styles in the very near future.

Also let me know what your favourite pieces are for fall and maybe I’ll add them to my list as well!

Early Fall ft. Simplee Apparel https://speakoftheangel.com/early-fall-ft-simplee-apparel/ https://speakoftheangel.com/early-fall-ft-simplee-apparel/#respond Wed, 07 Sep 2016 15:36:37 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2853 Gotta love a good early fall outfit. Especially one that involves a faux suede vest! This was a perfect ‘early September chilly day’ outfit. Most of the warmth was brought from my non-distressed jeans and my Talula Hackney t-shirt. The vest from Simplee Apparel was the key to tying together this super simple outfit and bringing in some trendiness to an otherwise plain outfit. I also threw on my double ended western belt from Simplee to add a little bit of detail to the outfit and also to break up the dark top and bottom combo. Without the silver from the belt I found that the shirt blended in with my jeans a little too much. Processed with VSCO with s2 preset

Super happy I got to discover Simplee apparel on Aliexpress. I’ve been shopping on Aliexpress for quite some time now but sometimes it gets difficult to find a shop that you can trust for quality. With so many different sellers on the e-commerce website, it definitely takes a while to sift through all the different reviews to find a trustworthy store to buy from. I’ve ordered three things from Simplee so far and the quality has correlated to the price really well. The vest for example is something I would’ve probably had to pay $50+ in stores at a different place but only paid $34 for on Simplee apparel. Same with the belt. although it wasn’t real leather, I’ve been looking for a stylish double ended belt for quite sometime now and this one was only $8 !

I’ve been eyeing a couple more pieces lately and definitely think I’ll be ordering from them again!

Processed with VSCO with s2 preset Processed with VSCO with s2 preset Processed with VSCO with s2 preset simplee

I also absolutely loved how my skinny ankle boots from Public Desire looked with the outfit! I wanted to keep things really streamline and sleek and I think the boots definitely helped complete that vibe. I’ve been really loving pairing these babies with my fall outfits. I think it adds a touch of sophistication to an outfit because of its classic shape.

What do you guys think? Loving the early fall weather or dreading the chilliness?
