I know I’m a little late on my update of LA but since I’ve been back I’ve been swamped with work and last minute summer activities. Not to mention my laptop crashed on me the day I got back so I’m stuck with using my historic Macbook air which I usually use just for note taking. The importing and uploading of photos REALLY made me appreciate and miss my Macbook Pro :'(

Okay onto a happier topic… LA! LA was an amazing trip and was definitely something I needed before summer ended and school began. Here’s one of the days I spent there.

Started the day off right with brunch at the Commissary in the Line Hotel in Koreatown. It was absolutely magical. I’ve seen photos on IG of it before but it was even more amazing and aesthetically pleasing in person. Overall I have to say the Line Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Very modern and simplistic. Definitely would consider staying there when visiting LA again.

Of course I had to stick with my go-to, an eggs benny. This one replaced the usual ham with prosciutto and oh dear lawd… it was amazing. Pretty much licked my plate after.

Found this cool little balcony on the same floor as the Commissary that just had some benches, plants, and a fire pit. Definitely a very cool vibe and can imagine some great summer chills there.

This is the view right out of the hotel lobby! I swear every single corner of LA is picture perfect. I can definitely see how LA bloggers have it so much better now ):

The rest of the day we just spent exploring different shopping areas such as Rodeo Drive (which was absolutely HEAVENLY) and the Fairfax and Melrose area. The urban culture in LA was just absolutely mind blowing. There were so many really cool stores and boutiques that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Not to mention all the walls and murals that I thought I’d only ever see on blogger feeds! Definitely wished I had prepared more spending money but I’m glad I reserved most of my money for food and activities rather than shopping. I think for my first real trip to LA I’m happy that I did all that I did and saw all that I saw. We mostly spent our time exploring the areas that we were interested in and eating the food that we were recommended either by friends or found on social media.

Next time I go I am definitely spending more time at the beaches (will be blogging about my Venice Beach/Santa Monica Pier day soon!) and bringing way more spending money! :b

As for my outfit I’m wearing a shirt that I bought from a random local boutique. My shorts are by One Teaspoon which I bought at Aritzia and my shoes are from Shoeme!

Oh yeah and a travel tip: BRING A BACKPACK! My Alexander Wang mini Marti backpack was my go-to for this trip for SURE. I found that having my handsfree was so helpful. Not to mention a lot more comfortable on my shoulders than just a cross-body bag.

I have more LA content coming soon!

Until then,

In Dark Alleys https://speakoftheangel.com/in-dark-alleys/ https://speakoftheangel.com/in-dark-alleys/#respond Tue, 09 Aug 2016 05:21:16 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2644 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

One of my favourite discoveries from my day trip to Victoria a few weeks ago was this amazing little alley in the heart of their Chinatown. I don’t know if it has a name or not but I’m just gunna call it the Heart’s Content alley (or HC for short) because there’s a cute little sign (which I’m pretty sure is actually for the shop but whatever) right at the start of the alley that says “this way for your heart’s content”.

The little brick alley opened up to a slightly larger space that is filled with cute little store fronts. Unfortunately we went there a little late and we didn’t get to go into any of the shops but it was still such a cool area to discover. It definitely made me feel some mad Harry Potter vibes. Diagon Alley anyone?

And of course, as bloggers do, we had to do a little shoot to capture the cool vibes of the place. And please don’t mind me hiding my face in 90% of the photos. I can’t do a smize or a bitch face if my life depended on it, so we’re just gunna cut that part out and PRETEND that I’m super street and cool. Okay.

I’m trying to pair more contrasting pieces together lately because I want my style to encompass everything that I love. I like dressing girly sometimes but also more casual and boyish other times. I like wearing all tight clothing sometimes, but also loose baggy jeans and tshirts. So I’ve been trying to mesh that all together and wear at least one contrasting piece in every outfit.

For this one it’s definitely the girly knit shirt with my badass new Alexander Wang mini marti bag and my super distressed One Teaspoon denim skirt. I loved how the outfit turned out and think it is a good representation of my style as a whole.

So that leads to the question, what does your style encompass? Are you more girly? More street? Sophisticated? Classy? or a little bit of everything? Let me know in the comments!

Summer of Skirts https://speakoftheangel.com/summer-of-skirts/ https://speakoftheangel.com/summer-of-skirts/#respond Wed, 03 Aug 2016 06:39:08 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2519 Processed with VSCO with s2 presetThis summer I really tried to get more in-tune with my girly side and wear more skirts! I tend to mostly stick with wearing pants and shorts but something clicked in me recently and I want to be more girly! My ultimate style goal is to be a mixture of badass-casual like HeyClaire and sophisticated-girly like Serena Vanderwoodsen (yes I understand that she is a TV show character. Doesn’t mean she can’t be a style icon). I’m definitely still trying to figure out what my personal style is but really, experimenting and discovering it is half the fun! Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetMy favourite part about this skirt is definitely the distressing all along the front and bottom of the skirt. I find that this is probably the perfect gateway skirt from my usual distressed denim/shorts to my newly discovered skirt obsession. It also can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and the accessories you pair it with. I wore it casually here with sneakers, a chill knit top, and my favourite oversized denim jacket. But I also loved how it looked with a crop top and booties for an effortless night out look. Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with s2 preset Processed with VSCO with s2 presetProcessed with VSCO with s2 preset

I wore this outfit when I did a day trip with Janice and Vernice to Victoria to explore. Was definitely the perfect outfit for the cool summer day that we were there! Not to mention definitely giving this outfit a 10/10 for comfort as well. I have a few more ‘discovering skirts’ outfits planned so hopefully I’ll have time to shoot for them soon! But for now I’ll leave you with some links to this one.

It was my bestfriend’s birthday a couple days ago, and we decided to go out and celebrate last night.

The original plan was to have dinner and then head to Celebrities nightclub for a night out in town, but we ended up just having dinner at Cactus Club and then heading to Millenium, a karaoke place.

I decided to go for a more casual outfit. If I had known that we would end up at karaoke instead of the club I would’ve been even more casual, but this was fine as well.

I’ve been getting more and more tired of dressing up for clubbing (especially wearing uncomfortable shoes) so I wanted to wear an outfit that would look cute with sneakers.

My top is from Brandy Melville, skirt from One Teaspoon and shoes from converse. I gotta say this skirt is one of my favourite purchases of this Summer, and I’m super glad that jean skirts are back in style. Hopefully they stay in style, cause I’m definitely going to be whipping this skirt out a lot next Summer as well.

Until next time,
