Which is my excuse to live in flowy dresses that aren’t form fitting. Unfortunately it’s also been serving the purpose of hiding the fact that I haven’t been to the gym in 2 weeks but that’s a whole other story.

Vancouver has been absolutely stunning this summer. We had a few blip weeks in the beginning but July has been a dream. The only bone I have to pick is that I’ve been using the heat as an excuse to be lazy. Totally unreasonable and completely my own fault but I can’t help it! The hot weather has been making me want to lounge around, with no intention of doing any sort of activities.

I’ve noticed that the lack of physical activity is starting to affect my mood a little bit though. Does anyone else have that issue? When they stop going to the gym they start feeling a little crappy about their body?

Have always loved light blues and whites for the summer and this dress from Tobi is the epitome of all that. I’ve had this dress since last year so it’s unfortunately no longer on their website. But I’ve included a bunch of flowy dresses that I love below.

Vivienne https://speakoftheangel.com/vivienne/ https://speakoftheangel.com/vivienne/#respond Thu, 26 Jul 2018 04:35:43 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5563 This week I decided I would put in the effort and actually try to dress like a girly girl. Anyone who knows me knows although I don’t look like a tom boy, I am definitely not a very lady-like and girly type of person. But of course, me being me, I pick the week after I come back from camping and have 68 mosquito bites (mostly on my legs) to wear dresses. Because that’s logical right?

Either way, I’m finally showing my small dress rotation some love and I’ve actually really been enjoying it. One of my favourites is this classic maroon slip dress from Aritzia. The Vivienne dress comes back every season in a few different colours. But it’ll almost always come back in black and white so I would definitely go for one of those.

It’s a little different from some of the other ones I’ve seen in stores because it’s double-lined. It’s got a crepe-y material on top and then it’s lined with a super soft cotton lining which makes wearing the dress extremely comfortable. I find that the double layers also makes the dress drape nicer too.

I’m excited for this new found love for dresses and have already been shopping around to grow my collection. What are your favourite summer dresses?

Already Chasing Summer https://speakoftheangel.com/already-chasing-summer/ https://speakoftheangel.com/already-chasing-summer/#respond Wed, 18 Jul 2018 16:42:40 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5511 Really have been appreciating the garden we have in our apartment complex because it’s given me the opportunity to shoot outfits without technically leaving the comfort of my home. I know that sounds lazy but for me it’s more so just about efficiency and maximizing my productivity. But I won’t lie, it’s definitely also partly because some days I just don’t feel like leaving home.

Summer has been in full swing in Vancouver, and it’s the best feeling. We’ve been having a mild heat wave here and although I’ve been hearing tons of complaints about it, I secretly am thriving. I think ultimately it just boils down to concluding that I belong in a very warm environment. SoCal here I come?

As the longest day of the year has come and gone, I’ve already been thinking about where I should fly to in October once the temperature starts to drop. Definitely some where hot—maybe Hawaii, or maybe Malibu. I’m not going to be able to resist chasing summer this year.

Aritzia bralette, Urban Outfitters Romper, Aritzia Bag, and Forever21 Sandals.

Promised myself that I would try to be more girly this summer. I think this purchase was my desperate attempt to keep that promise to myself. I actually love everything about this romper—the tie-front, how it hugs your waist but then flows down, and the fabric… is phenomenal. Urban Outfitters has created quite a few rompers, jumpsuits, and tops in this super soft fabric, and I just want to collect them all. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, seriously go into a store and just touch this romper. You’ll instantly understand.

Escaping To The Fire Escape https://speakoftheangel.com/fire-escape/ https://speakoftheangel.com/fire-escape/#respond Fri, 25 May 2018 17:26:07 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=5303 Maybe it’s from all the old movies I’ve seen where whenever someone’s having a bad night and just need a cigarette and to be left alone with their thoughts, they’re always escaping to the fire escape. Although these old buildings with fire escapes appear all over the world, New York is infamous for them. That’s why whenever I’m there staying in an Airbnb, I am always super excited when I find the fire escape.

I’ve dreamt of having my own red brick or brown stone apartment with a fire escape ever since I was small. And although my current apartment is the opposite of all of those requirements, I love it nonetheless. But there’s just something about the thought of being able to crawl on to the fire escape on a warm summer night with a throw blanket, a candle, and maybe a book… is just SUCH an appealing and relaxing thought.

Fire Escape Outfit #1

This is my “I’m Serena Vanderwoodsen visiting Dan Humphrey in Brooklyn and hanging out on his windowsill” outfit—fitting right? Low key does anyone relate most things in New York to Gossip Girl still? I really love how this cropped black turtleneck from Urban Outfitters looks with my wool Hopper skirt from Aritzia.  Definitely gives the outfit a “preppy” feel which I actually really enjoy sporting.

Fire Escape Outfit #2

I wanted to embody my inner “chill girl” vibe with this outfit. It’s what I imagine I would wear on a regular day if I lived in New York. As if I just ran out to the bodega on the corner for the some breakfast, ran some errands, and now I’m hanging out on my fire escape in the Lower East Side. Goals. Both my top and my shorts were purchased at Aritzia, and my shoes are the Nike Low Top AF 1s.

I think most creatives would understand the feeling of being inspired by completely RANDOM things at times. Mine just so happened to be these old-school fire protection stairwells ??‍♀

Red For Spring https://speakoftheangel.com/red-for-spring/ https://speakoftheangel.com/red-for-spring/#respond Tue, 03 Apr 2018 00:10:18 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=4772 Vancouver’s weather has been more of a roller coaster ride than a PMS-ing girl’s emotions this Spring. We’re known for our unpredictable and volatile climate but I feel like this Spring has just been out of control. We’re jumping 15-degree t-shirt weather (as depicted in the images below) to snow on some days (?!?!? WTF IS UP)

It has been a challenge and a half trying to take advantage of the sunny days but luckily I’ve had a few successful days where I’ve been able to free up some time in my schedule, and just get outside.

I’ve become the most typical Vancouverite—even if it’s still below 10-degrees, as long as it’s sunny, I’m putting on Spring clothes and wearing it as if I wasn’t still actually freezing my butt off.

I pretty much jumped at the opportunity to rock this red tube top from Urban Planet. Slowly and surely, I’ve been converted to incorporating colour in my wardrobe. Although red is already a glaring beginning to this trend—somehow I feel like it won’t be the only bright colour I fall in love with this Spring/Summer season.

Here’s to more sunny days (fingers crossed).

More soon,

Angel Zheng

Girls Night Out https://speakoftheangel.com/girls-night-out-2/ https://speakoftheangel.com/girls-night-out-2/#respond Thu, 15 Mar 2018 18:55:22 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=4713 Anyone that knows me knows that I rarely go out on the town anymore. Ever since leaving BCIT and starting in my career, I’ve lost the interest of going out and partying. I value my bedtime too much and refuse to go trade a good night’s sleep for the club or bar.

I realize how totally boring that makes me sound, especially being someone who’s 23. BUT everyone lives different lifestyles and mine just happens to have most of my activities happen during the day time.

But just because I don’t love going out, doesn’t mean I don’t love “going out” clothes.

In spirit of my ex-going out life and for those who still do (power to ya girl), here’s an outfit that I would’ve worn out to a girls night out!

Bright colours have made its way back into being popular in fashion. Especially colours like red and orange—colours I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing just a few years ago. I moved to a very minimal clothing colour palette since about 4 years ago. Definitely happy to be slowly re-introducing pieces that provide pops of colour to my outfit.

A recent item that I bought being this red ribbed tube top from Urban Outfitters. I am OBSESSED. I think it pairs so nicely with my Citizens of Humanity Liya denim. And of course, no going out outfit is complete for me without my Mackage Florica Jacket from Aritzia.

Until next time,

Angel Zheng

I.AM.GIA. Pixie Coat https://speakoftheangel.com/gia-pixie-coat/ https://speakoftheangel.com/gia-pixie-coat/#respond Wed, 31 Jan 2018 05:35:13 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=4657 As the weather gets warmer, I’ve been feeling more motivated to wear real outfits rather than just throw on as many layers as humanly possible and walk around like a giant potato. This jacket from I.AM.GIA has actually been amazing for the winter. We didn’t have a crazy, snowy winter like we did last winter (thankfully) so this jacket was the perfect winter jacket—it was cozy, warm, and definitely very on trend.

A lot of people have been asking me about the Pixie coat; what I wear with it, what size I bought, is it warm, is it comfy…

So I thought I would just address all of these questions all at once. It’s AMAZING. I would definitely recommend spending the money. It’s super comfy, and it’s lined so it isn’t scratchy whatsoever. I got it in an XS and I think that it’s a good fit. I am 5’8 and it hits my hips + just below, for those of you wondering if it’ll be a good length. It is.

I’ve been styling this jacket a billion ways—pretty much with anything and everything. I especially love it with these tan plaid pants and combat boots. It also looks really great with denim and a chill sweater. It’s honestly been my winter go-to this season; to the point where I had to force myself to start wearing other jackets again.

So if you’re still on the fence about buying it… DO IT.

And no, this is not sponsored. But I.AM.GIA, HMU THO.

Until next time,

Angel Zheng

Beara Beara (+ discount code) https://speakoftheangel.com/beara-beara-discount-code/ https://speakoftheangel.com/beara-beara-discount-code/#respond Fri, 17 Nov 2017 18:48:00 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=4402 I think ever since Gossip Girl came into my life, I’ve had a love for preppy styles. Although typically, the girls in GG are carrying handbags that are way WAY out of my price range—when Beara Beara reached out to me, I was pleasantly reminded of my high school dreams of going to a private school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Beara Beara carries quality leather bags in classic preppy styles. When I was checking out I noticed that they offer engraving services. You can choose between a gold embossing or just regular embossed engraving. And I have to admit, I initially wasn’t sure whether or not this would turn out well. But after I received my bag in the mail I fell in LOVE with the gold initials. Now I kind of wish I could get my initials engraved on EVERY bag I own.

There’s something about seeing your name on a product that just feels…so satisfying. If you’re looking for a holiday gift idea, I think a customized Beara Beara bag is the perfect present.

A huge part of what makes me LOVE fall fashion are the coats. I think my Stedman, a menswear-inspired wool coat by Aritzia, pairs perfectly with the studious vibe of the Santa Anna leather satchel. I chose the small size because I wanted something I could use on the day to day without worrying about it being too heavy or big. I used this bag for work today and it actually fit my agenda, a bullet journal, a laptop charger, a hard drive, as well as my essentials (wallet, keys, phone). I’m glad I got this size rather than the mini size because it’s still a versatile bag at this size.

BB was nice enough to offer me a 10% discount code to my readers. Just use the code ‘bbangel’ at checkout!

I actually got another bag from them that I am OBSESSED with as well, but we’ll save that for (another) rainy day.

Until next time,

Angel Zheng
