Lately I’ve been a little attached to the preppiness of trousers and little sweaters. I definitely think it has to do with school and applying for internships. Been feeling more like an adult lately and my clothes have definitely been mirroring that.

Accessories that I’ve been wearing every single day has been my Daniel Wellington watch and cuff. My Hermes bangle used to be my only daily accessory but I’ve since added these two pieces and haven’t had a reason to stop yet. They’ve been the perfect addition to my outfits no matter what style I’m feeling that day. Not to mention they DEFINITELY help with me feeling like an adult. There’s something about checking the time on a watch that just feels so much more satisfying than glancing at your phone.

DW has been kind enough to provide me with a discount code for you guys! You can use the code “speakoftheangel” for 15% off your next order. They’re currently doing a promo where you receive a free a free leather cardholder with the purchase of a watch and cuff. And the best part is, you can use my promo code on top of that! Which means 15% off AND a free leather cardholder!

Also, if you were wondering, my sweater is from Nordstrom and pants are the Jimmy pants from Aritzia!

Alrighty, back to school work.

Comfortable in Aritzia https://speakoftheangel.com/comfortable-in-aritzia/ https://speakoftheangel.com/comfortable-in-aritzia/#respond Fri, 18 Nov 2016 20:55:25 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3486 I am currently curled up in a corner in the backroom of my work writing this blogpost. This is all that my life has consisted of lately. Wake up, school, work, gym (sometimes), sleep. I am definitely someone who lives for schedules. I love planning things. I love knowing exactly what I’ll be doing the next day, and the day after that, and over the weekend. I just like being in control of my life. The moments I feel the most lost and helpless is when I start losing control…

But lately, with my schedule and forthcoming end-of-semester due-dates and exams, I feel like I haven’t had anytime to myself and to do the things that I want to do. And oh man I’ve just been feeling so de-motivated :'( .

So what I’m trying to say is I’m sorry that all my content lately has been iphone quality and shot outside of my school. I’ve been trying to use all the decently “aesthetically pleasing” parts of my school.

img_0419img_0421 img_0418 img_0417

I know I’ve mentioned these pants before but they are just awesome. Very few dress pants from Aritzia actually fit me the way I want them to because I have proportionately larger thighs and calves than waist so I am always between sizes. These “dressy joggers” are actually supposed to fit long and loose but I actually quite like how it fits on me. They come up a little higher, right above my ankles, and have a drawstring waist. They definitely barely fit the “trouser”/”dress pant” category but the fabric definitely dresses it up a bit.

And then of course I had to buy yet another thin turtleneck shirt. I actually own this exact shirt in three colours now… it’s an issue. But honestly it’s the comfiest, softest shirt I own. I think it’s the perfect “chill” shirt for school over jeans, trousers, joggers, you name it. The colour that I’m wearing above is Twine. I also own it in Tuscan Olive and Heather Ashen.

I recently finally upgraded my camera and bought a new lens so I’m hoping that’ll be more than enough motivation to get me creating content again. The only thing I’m missing is time, but we can figure that out somehow.

Hope school is going well for all my student readers out there. I feel your pain… We can do this together :'(

And to those who don’t have school, GET EXCITED! Holiday season is upon us!

Back to School Coziness with Bench https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/ https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school-coziness/#respond Thu, 15 Sep 2016 21:14:58 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2900 School is in full swing and my 8am lectures are definitely starting to wear me out. I swear I’ve been giving myself less and less time to get ready in the morning, which means my outfits have been getting more simple by the day. Which is totally fine by me because typically the more simple the outfit, the comfier it is. I have been catching myself online shopping for sweater dresses and other cozy one pieces that I can just throw on and go. One piece that I’ve been searching for for a while is a oversized sweat-shirt that I can wear as a dress. Fortunately Bench has got me covered because they just launched a sweat-shirt dress with their new Fall line and it is exactly what I was looking for.

If there was ever a time to say “I literally can’t even”, this would be it. This dress is the epitome of back-to-school comfort and I see the danger of over-wearing this during the school year. But thankfully it’s actually a cute piece along with being cozy, and I think I could actually style this a couple different ways so it doesn’t seem like I’m wearing the exact same thing every single day.

I can see this dress coming in handy during midterms/finals season because it’ll be a no-brainer outfit that I can even sleep in! And that, my friends, is a MAJOR KEY to exam season success.

You can find the Bench sweatshirt dress here ! It also comes in a dusty blue colour that I feel like I should probably cop as well. If you’re wondering about sizing, I actually went up a size in this dress so that it’d be EXTRA over-sized and sleeping-bag like. I’m 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh about 125 lbs and I went with a medium in this dress. Hope that helps if you’re planning to order online!

So that’s all for today! Hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Back to School https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school/ https://speakoftheangel.com/back-to-school/#respond Wed, 07 Sep 2016 01:08:18 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2838 I still cannot believe that summer is officially over and school has started. It felt like just a couple of weeks ago that I was slaving away trying to maintain my sanity for my 7 finals that were jam-packed in one week. The only thing that I’m actually excited about is that I can finally wear fall clothes! Hello layering, goodbye shorts and tanks!

Something else that I’m super excited about is actually my collaboration with Maison Simons. They let me shop their Twik line, which is one of their more junior house brands, and pick out some back to school essentials! So here’s my first outfit for back to school!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with s2 preset

Both the sweater vest and the sleeveless top are from Simons. I’ve been obsessed with vests for fall and this one is right up my alley. I love that it’s light grey and the knit is super light which I think is perfect for throwing over a light turtleneck or long sleeve shirt. It was actually kind of warm today so wearing it with this sleeveless top was perfect.

As for the white top itself I chose it mainly for tucking into trousers or skirts for a clean, preppy look. I love how it pairs with the Buffon trousers from Aritziasimons

I know everyone wants to be comfortable for those early morning classes but I think you could definitely still look cute while being comfy and cozy. This would be a perfect example of a ‘cute scrub’ outfit that I would throw on for those days I don’t want to bother with denim and leather and whatnot. I definitely saw a lot more items at Simons that I would want for school or for just everyday so I’m going to be making another trip there soon!

Also did you know that they carry some hard to find brands in their contemporary section as well? They sell Acne Studios and even Comme de Garcon! (I’ve been eyeing down the Comme de Garcon and Converse collabs for a long time so I think I might have to pick them up there!)

Let me know how your first day of school was and what you wore!

Quickies https://speakoftheangel.com/quickies/ https://speakoftheangel.com/quickies/#comments Mon, 18 Apr 2016 17:55:18 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1958 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I’ve been forced to do a lot of “quickies” for my blog lately :(. And yes I realize how disturbing that sounds. I thought it was funny HAHA.

Okay let me explain myself. A lot of my posts on here and my instagram recently have been, what I like to call, “quickie” content. Where I just go outside and get my little sister to take a few shots for me before having to get back to stressing about school. I’ve been feeling an itch to create lately… but with projects and reports and final presentations all being due in the next 2 weeks, I’m really going to have to lock it down and get my shit done. If I could I would 100% dedicate all my time to Youtube and Blogging and Instagram. But it just doesn’t pay the bills. Plus I still have to finish school or else my Asian parents would disown me, so I am left with “quickies”.

Here’s a typical outfit that I would wear to school. And then on other days it’s just slight adjustments to the same-ish outfits. Here I’m wearing a boyfriend-fit Aritzia button down which I LOVE. So comfortable. I also have been obsessed with this thin jacket from Oak and Fort. It looks like a oversized all-black flannel almost, with an elongated back side for that. It’s the perfect spring jacket since it’s thin but it’s still lined. And then of course can’t go a day without wearing my favorite brand of jeans, Citizens of Humanity. So comfortable while keeping me looking stylish for school days.

You know what’s the giveaway that this was a quickie? Not sure if you could tell but I’m wearing sunglasses because I’m not wearing any make up. I could not be bothered putting a face on just for photos so how do I fix it? Wear the darkest pair of sunglasses I own. TA-DA! Ready to shoot.

Hopefully I’ll be able to create some bomb photos/videos for you guys soon. I have a shoot day planned for next Monday so let’s hope it all goes as planned.

Grey is my “Comfy” Colour https://speakoftheangel.com/grey-is-comfort/ https://speakoftheangel.com/grey-is-comfort/#respond Mon, 29 Feb 2016 03:56:56 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1528 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I think grey has always been one of my favourite colours (shades) to wear. It’s easy, versatile, and a such a comfortable and casual colour. Especially in the warmer months, I think grey is a great “lighter” colour to wear if you don’t want to wear starch white. One of my favourite Spring pieces in my wardrobe this year is this lightweight wool coat that I purchased from Oak and Fort last year. It’s got the classic over-sized, norm-core Oak and Fort silhouette, and is such a great coat to throw over a casual outfit. I think as I’m getting older I’m trying to experiment with what I wear and what I feel comfortable wearing. I try not to stick with a certain style or label and just dress in what makes me feel good about myself. And I  think that’s key when it comes to finding your own style. I’ve had many friends tell me they can’t pinpoint or label what my “style” is. But that’s just fine with me. I think if anything, that makes me more uniquely me. Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

For this particular outfit I started with really simple black and white basics. It was a long day at school and my biggest concern was whether I could comfortably curl up in my lecture hall. My white t-shirt is from Wilfred Free by Aritzia, and my leggings are the cult classic leather Daria leggings also from Aritzia. For shoes of course I had to wear my Adidas Superstars. I can’t believe I’m actually saying this… but I think I might like these even more than my Stan Smiths… (don’t tell Stan).

To pull the outfit together and to add warmth, I threw on my Oak and Fort coat and this fluffy Zara scarf. We were having a warmer week so the scarf and coat were actually just right when it came to keeping me warm. Sadly Vancouver has gone back to doom and gloom and cold so I won’t be able to pull off wearing just a t-shirt underneath this coat anymore. COME BACK SUN. PLEASE.

What are your favourite comfortable pieces to wear to school or in the Spring?

New Kicks On The Block https://speakoftheangel.com/new-kicks-on-the-block/ https://speakoftheangel.com/new-kicks-on-the-block/#respond Wed, 13 Jan 2016 07:28:28 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1486 IMG_2393 IMG_2387 IMG_2389 IMG_2386 IMG_2391

On my most recent trip down to the states I picked up these snake print Adidas SL Loop. I definitely noticed these before but never really knew whether it was worth spending the money on. However, I got lucky, during my trip to Portland I saw these for a discounted price at Nordstrom Rack. I’ve definitely been on a sneaker kick since this past summer and I’ve acquired 5 different pairs of sneakers since the May… Yikes. But since sneakers are actually all the rage right now, it’s the perfect time for me to lounge around in as many different sneakers as I can. Comfort + style. What could be better.

I love how these pop with a good black outfit. They really do stand out yet the pattern is still subtle. I paired this near-all-black ensemble with a light washed denim jacket which I think helps break up all the darkness. Inside I’m wearing a really simple, crew-neck sweater and I’m using my Matt & Nat backpack.

This is a pretty good representation of what kind of outfit I usually go for when I’ve got class to attend. I find that the all black makes it look trendy still but I’m still super comfortable and cozy for those cold lecture halls.

How do you like to wear your sneakers?

Studying in Coffee Shops https://speakoftheangel.com/studying-in-coffee-shops/ https://speakoftheangel.com/studying-in-coffee-shops/#respond Tue, 29 Sep 2015 17:43:52 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1293 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I love studying in coffee shops. Something about the background noise of light chatter, mugs clinking, and soft typing, really helps me concentrate on whatever work I have on hand. I’ve mentioned a few of my favourite coffee joints here and there, but I haven’t really ever given you guys my go-to’s for studying. With midterm season creeping up on us unsuspecting post-secondary students, I thought it would be an ideal time to share a few of my Vancity favourites.

  1. 49th Parallel on W 4th ave – this is actually where the above photos were taken. I absolutely love the clean, minimalistic design in this place. It features a mostly white interior, with beautiful pops of turquoise. The vibe of the place definitely helps with relaxing my super strung out brain during exam season. If you visit, try out their Venezuelan coffee. It’s literally mouth-wateringly good.
  2. Calhoun’s – Located on W Broadway, Calhoun’s is a UBC student favourite. Open 24/7, this is the perfect study spot for all you hard workers that like to pull late nights. I love going here during the colder months because of the cozy vibe of the place. Not to mention they have a pretty decent food selection which they can warm up for you. Feeling unmotivated? Calhoun’s also serves beer and wine to get your creative juices flowing.
  3. Blenz on no.3 rd. – Here’s a place my friends and I regular a lot because… well… everyone we know comes here. A classic study spot for the more Asian crowd, both the Blenz on No. 3 road and the one on Blundell road are open 24/7 for all your study needs. I practically live here during finals season.

If you live in Vancouver, check these places out ! And let me know if you have some go-to places that are your tried-and-true.

Until next time,

STUDY HARD GUYS .
