Crazy how quickly this summer flew by. I feel like as I’m getting older each year just keeps going by faster. Kind of starting to understand why the phrase “time is money” exists now. Vancouver had its first rain in a while and oh man did it feel like autumn. Definitely a preview of the school semester to come (aka going to school at 7 am when it’s still dark out). But I do have to say the cloudy weather is definitely provides more photo-friendly lighting than the blaring sunshine does. So of course I went outside on my break to an undercover area to take OOTDs :b.

I think I’ve finally gotten my fix of chunky turtle necks and have been leaning more towards just round or v-shaped necklines in sweaters. I have a feeling the one I’m wearing here is going to be a favourite this fall. This oatmeal coloured, waffle-knit sweater is from Aritzia’s house brand, Wilfred Free. I have actually been eyeing this sweater since last year but ended up buying several other sweaters instead of this one. But now that I finally own it I’m sad I didn’t own it earlier. The knit is thick yet still very breathable so I’ve been able to make use of it already. I sized up and bought a medium because I wanted it to look and feel very oversized and comfy. The neckline is wide enough that I can wear it off one shoulder (which I am obsessed with) should I ever get sick of the v-shaped neckline. I think this is going to be a great sweater to dress up or down this fall/winter and it’s got me pretty excited for the cooler weather.

I paired the sweater with this simple black maxi skirt which is also by Wilfred Free. I love how the slit angles slightly towards the front. And of course the reposa material is well loved for its comfort and lightweight feel.

Also can we talk about how adorable this watch is? I’m digging the rose gold and white face paired with the light grey leather band. I think the colour scheme is beautiful and have worn it a bunch of times already. Only issue I have with the watch is that because the watch face is slightly bigger, when the watch twists and turns on my wrist it can feel a little uncomfortable. But overall I’ve really enjoyed styling this watch with my girlier outfits. I think it ties everything together really well.

Hope everyone had an amazing week so far!

Until next time,

Casual day in LA https://speakoftheangel.com/casual-day-in-la/ https://speakoftheangel.com/casual-day-in-la/#respond Wed, 31 Aug 2016 04:43:10 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2721 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

I know I’m a little late on my update of LA but since I’ve been back I’ve been swamped with work and last minute summer activities. Not to mention my laptop crashed on me the day I got back so I’m stuck with using my historic Macbook air which I usually use just for note taking. The importing and uploading of photos REALLY made me appreciate and miss my Macbook Pro :'(

Okay onto a happier topic… LA! LA was an amazing trip and was definitely something I needed before summer ended and school began. Here’s one of the days I spent there.

Started the day off right with brunch at the Commissary in the Line Hotel in Koreatown. It was absolutely magical. I’ve seen photos on IG of it before but it was even more amazing and aesthetically pleasing in person. Overall I have to say the Line Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Very modern and simplistic. Definitely would consider staying there when visiting LA again.

Of course I had to stick with my go-to, an eggs benny. This one replaced the usual ham with prosciutto and oh dear lawd… it was amazing. Pretty much licked my plate after.

Found this cool little balcony on the same floor as the Commissary that just had some benches, plants, and a fire pit. Definitely a very cool vibe and can imagine some great summer chills there.

This is the view right out of the hotel lobby! I swear every single corner of LA is picture perfect. I can definitely see how LA bloggers have it so much better now ):

The rest of the day we just spent exploring different shopping areas such as Rodeo Drive (which was absolutely HEAVENLY) and the Fairfax and Melrose area. The urban culture in LA was just absolutely mind blowing. There were so many really cool stores and boutiques that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Not to mention all the walls and murals that I thought I’d only ever see on blogger feeds! Definitely wished I had prepared more spending money but I’m glad I reserved most of my money for food and activities rather than shopping. I think for my first real trip to LA I’m happy that I did all that I did and saw all that I saw. We mostly spent our time exploring the areas that we were interested in and eating the food that we were recommended either by friends or found on social media.

Next time I go I am definitely spending more time at the beaches (will be blogging about my Venice Beach/Santa Monica Pier day soon!) and bringing way more spending money! :b

As for my outfit I’m wearing a shirt that I bought from a random local boutique. My shorts are by One Teaspoon which I bought at Aritzia and my shoes are from Shoeme!

Oh yeah and a travel tip: BRING A BACKPACK! My Alexander Wang mini Marti backpack was my go-to for this trip for SURE. I found that having my handsfree was so helpful. Not to mention a lot more comfortable on my shoulders than just a cross-body bag.

I have more LA content coming soon!

Until then,

Boardwalkin’ in Tevas https://speakoftheangel.com/boardwalkin-in-tevas/ https://speakoftheangel.com/boardwalkin-in-tevas/#respond Thu, 14 Jul 2016 04:34:33 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2380 Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Oh man, these classic Tevas sandals remind me SO much of my childhood. Which is a huge reason why I had to add these to my shoe collection. The flip-flop styled sole and the easy velcro straps… I lived in sandals like this when I was a kid. These definitely brought back some cute memories for me, not to mention they’re actually super cute!

I picked the all white pair because I knew they would be super easy to pair with summer outfits and because I am still completely obsessed with all white shoes (which you would know if you’ve ever seen my sneaker collection). I think they paired perfectly with this blue and white romper and my Peace Collective oversized denim jacket. I love that the baggy jacket and the simple sandals really dress down the romper and actually give it a more boy-ish vibe. As much as I like to pretend I’m a lady sometimes, everyone that knows me knows that I really am not. That’s why I really like throwing in boy-ish elements into my casual outfits, because I find that it more accurately portrays who I am.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 presetA quick tip if you were looking to buy these sandals: Tevas sandals only come in full size (no half sizes!) so when picking between two sizes go with the smaller one! I am usually between 7.5 and 8 in shoe sizes so I thought it would make more sense for me to pick the size 8 in these shoes. And yes they still fit great and are comfortable but size 7 would’ve fit even better I think. So size down if you’re between sizes!

If you want to purchase the shoe you can check them out here.

Until next time!

Hardy Shoes! https://speakoftheangel.com/hardy-devon/ https://speakoftheangel.com/hardy-devon/#respond Wed, 18 May 2016 23:44:51 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2015 Processed with VSCO with a6 presetShoeme (or Shoes.com if you’re in the U.S.) now has their very own brand of shoes! I was given the opportunity to choose a pair of shoes from their new brand, Hardy, to try out and I was beyond excited. Hardy shoes all have this great ‘men’s fashion’ silhouette and are all slim, sleek, and GAAAWWW-GEOUS. Processed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 preset Processed with VSCO with a6 presetAfter much deliberation, (like literally took me over an hour just to pick a style), I decided on the Devon style in the colour ‘Mushroom’. The Devon shoe has a Nubuck leather outer layer and has a leather lining. My favourite part of the shoe has got to be its cushioned sole, making the shoe really comfortable. BUT I would recommend sizing up half a size especially if you have wider feet like me. Although I am usually a true 7.5 in shoes, I found that the slim shape of the shoe made it tight for my feet. I’ve only worn the shoe twice so far so I think it definitely still needs to be broken in, but I think size 8 would’ve been a good idea cause the shoe would be comfortable right off the bat.

Other than that I really love the shape and style of the Devon shoe! I think it’s a very classic oxford shape with an elegant feminine twist. Plus how LOVELY is the ‘Mushroom’ colour though? Perfect for the spring/summer. I’m going to stick a shoe stretcher into it and see if it helps break in the leather a little. Will keep you guys updated on how it feels!

So upon exploring Kerrisdale with Mary the other day, we found this beautiful gem of a place that’s practically right in our back yard. And of course, being the instagrammers that we are, we instantly saw it as backgrounds galore haha.

I was actually so amazed at the beauty of this place. It definitely gave off a European vibe and it makes it look like I’m somewhere much more exciting than Kerrisdale. I’ll definitely be using this place as a shoot location A LOT more in the near future (was wishing I brought like ten outfits out that day) but here’s a quick glimpse into my new little paradise.

The romper that I’m wearing was actually a long jumpsuit that I found at Winners. I didn’t like the way the legs flared out at the end, found it really unflattering, so I snipped off the legs and made it into a romper! I think it’s way cuter this way :3 I love the tie detailing at the waist that cinches you in at the waist, as well as the deep V. It hugs my body at all the right places I love it!

I can not WAIT to shoot more here. Will definitely be allocating a whole day to spend shooting and filming here. God, I’m in LOVE.

If you live in Vancouver, let me know in the comments your favourite places to shoot or just places you think are absolutely dreamy. I’m always looking for new backdrops and I definitely got lucky with this one.

Spring Sandals https://speakoftheangel.com/spring-sandals/ https://speakoftheangel.com/spring-sandals/#comments Sun, 03 Apr 2016 05:14:13 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1776 Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Vancouver weather has been nothing short of perfection this past week!

I started the week off (it was Easter Monday) with a hike at the Chief (will post pictures of that soon) and have made plans to go kayaking this weekend. Like I promised, I’m diving head first into Spring this year and getting an early start on my fun, warm-weather activities. Although I’m still only half way through my semester at school, I’m really trying to make time for fun adventures and activities. I find that it helps with the stress of the workload. As important as it is for me to power through and finish school, my happiness still comes first!

Anyways, that’s beside the point. I wanted to feature my new Dolce Vita Louise sandals from ShoeMe.ca. (*) I’ve actually been looking for a new pair of Spring/Summer sandals since I wrecked all of mine from before and these really are puuuuurrrrfect. I really like how they aren’t just flat sandals. Although the wedge is just a little kitty wedge, I love that when you’re looking at the front of the shoe it looks like you’re wearing heels which really elongates the legs. And that’s always a good thing in my books.

I also love that they’re so. damn. comfortable!!! I’m definitely a sneakers > heels girl so the one thing I was worried about was how my feet were going to feel in these strappy babies. Usually strappy + heel means PAIN IN THE BUTT. Luckily these weren’t like that at all. I think the heel is the perfect height to add a little something something to the shoe while still keeping it wearable and comfortable. The heel is actually really nice because if gives your feet a little bit more support than regular sandals do. I find that completely flat sandals make my feet extremely sore at the end of the day from the lack of support. Is that just me?

I’ve honestly got so many other looks I want to wear with these shoes and I can’t wait to share them with you guys! Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with all my new updates <3
