winter – SPEAKOFTHEANGEL https://speakoftheangel.com Tue, 07 Feb 2017 23:00:12 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.1 82987084 Parks and Parkas https://speakoftheangel.com/parks-and-parkas/ https://speakoftheangel.com/parks-and-parkas/#respond Tue, 07 Feb 2017 23:00:12 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3589 So Vancouver was an absolute winter wonderland this season. I’m definitely not complaining but I was really glad I owned some parkas in my arsenal. I am someone who gets cold super easily. You’d honestly laugh if you knew how quickly I just fall apart when I am cold. So parkas are really the be all end all of my winter wardrobe. Bench has always been know for good outerwear and it was no different with their 2016 A/W jackets. This one is my current favourite for so many reasons.

For one, I absolutely adore the fit of it. It has a more fitted silhouette which I definitely look for in jackets as I’d like for people to be able to see that I have a waist, even in the winter. I also actually really enjoy the deep, sack pockets which is ESSENTIAL for me because it means I can throw my phone, wallet, keys, lip balm, and coin purse in there and completely bypass wearing a purse. All I have to do is reach into my pockets and everything is there!

The last thing that I really love about this parka is the longer back side! I find the longer, asymmetrical shape of the parka is actually flattering, especially since in the front it still looks like such a good length.

The parka definitely saved me a LOT that day considering it was freakin’ FREEZING by the waters. Been wearing it almost every day since I got it and really been loving the versatility of it. I still love my taupe coloured Oskar parka from Aritzia but I’ve got to say, the black is so easy to wear I actually find that I reach for it more. Been seeing more and more Canada goose parkas on the streets of Vancouver lately as winter progresses. But who says you need to drop bills for a great parka?

It’s beginning to feel a lot like christmas https://speakoftheangel.com/beginning-feel-lot-like-christmas/ https://speakoftheangel.com/beginning-feel-lot-like-christmas/#respond Fri, 09 Dec 2016 08:34:57 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3608 Now that air is (painfully) crisp and Vancouver had its first solid snow in years, it’s finally beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Although I still have my finals week to endure I’ve definitely already started celebrating Holiday 2016.

It really has been a rough year. Lot’s of ups but also so many downs. Not to mention school and work had engulfed my entire life and I’ve done nothing but those two things. There were weeks that I thought would never end and bad memories that I thought would never fade. Yet here we are, in the last month of this year… And looking back… yes a lot of shitty things happened but all of those passed and this year really flew by.

One thing I always regret is not documenting my life better. I used to journal almost every night. Given, most of my entries were about my boy troubles, but I still was able to write every night. And then for a while I did vlogs. Those died down quickly as my life became more and more routine. And now that the year is over, I suddenly wish I had more to look back on. More to remind me of all the good things that had happened this year.

I know it’s not yet time for resolutions but I am definitely going to try to do that more in 2017. Hopefully in video form, but even just utilizing my camera more and taking the time to take real photos of what I do in my life. This next year is going to be a really big one for me with graduation and entering the adult workforce life. So I really want to make sure I record it all! So maybe I can share it with all of you!

I’m really excited to see what’s to come in the following year. But I’ve got to say, although it’s been a hard one, 2016 is definitely going to be a little hard to let go of. Thankfully I’ve got my family and all my friends to help with that process.

Alright, enough of that sappy shit. Stay tuned for (hopefully) a lot more exciting posts this winter!

Until next time,

Bundling in Bench https://speakoftheangel.com/bundling-in-bench/ https://speakoftheangel.com/bundling-in-bench/#comments Mon, 05 Dec 2016 17:01:47 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3524 Jackets are always the one thing I don’t buy a lot of. One, because they’re always the priciest pieces to buy, and two, I get sucked into buying everything else first. BUT Bench was having an amazing black friday sale this year so I had to pick up some new jackets for the freezing winter that’s already hit Vancouver.

Bench always have great sales between seasons but their black friday weekend sale was crazy. They had everything on sale in-stores and online so it was madness trying to find sizes. Thankfully both the jackets that I wanted had my size left #blessed. Will definitely be sharing the other one with you guys soon as I’m going to be living in these the next few months.

I actually got two really similar jackets. Both are the long parka style. The main difference is that one is a thinner, wider fit (the one I’m wearing above) and the other is a thick black parka. I invested in the Oskar parka from Aritzia last year in a taupe colour which I still absolutely love. But I wanted some black jackets this year so that they’re a little more versatile and easier to wear.

Gotta say I’m in love with them already. The quilting on the inside of the jacket is an awesome little detail that peeps out when you wear the jacket open, which I usually do. I also really enjoy the hidden waist cinching drawstring on the inside of the jacket. Especially with a jacket with a wider, chill fit like this one, I like that it helps show that I actually have a figure under all my bundling.

I’m excited for the cold weather now! It’s snowing in Vancouver today so it’s the perfect timing for these :3

Who else is slightly obsessed with outerwear right now?

Layering Up https://speakoftheangel.com/layering-up/ https://speakoftheangel.com/layering-up/#respond Thu, 24 Nov 2016 08:34:32 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3508 I forgot how difficult it is to stay stylish when it’s freezing outside :'( . It takes all I have to resist the urge to wear the same non-distressed denim and thick sweater every day. But since it’s the week of black friday work has been crazy busy which means it matters more than usual how I present myself. Hence the try-hard outfits.

I found out this week the key to dressing semi-stylish in the winter is just to own some really long coats and super warm bombers. Because really you probably will be spending most of your time indoors somewhere anyways.. so throw a thick jacket over a cute outfit and BAM. Winter ready. Unless you’re hanging out outside then my tip to you is just to layer on as many layers as humanly possible.

img_0502 fullsizerender-3

For my outfit I just layered a really long coat over top of my outfit. Inside, I’m wearing my Gordon camisole from Aritzia which is a classic 90s straight neckline cami. I tucked it into my Citizens of Humanity Liyas which are a light-washed mom jean style. Threw my camel long cardigan and a pair of black booties on and I was good to go. Most of the time, indoors, that was what I was wearing. When I had to actually go outside and bear the cold I threw this new coat that I found from Winners on and my Herringbone scarf from Aritzia. And you know what… I didn’t freeze to death today! So I think my first “winter” outfit was a success!

By the way, a lot of clothing is already on sale on the Aritzia website right now so go and spend some money! And do me a favour and BUY ONLINE. So us poor girls can clean up the store and leave work at a godly hour. KTHNXBYE.

Goose https://speakoftheangel.com/goose/ https://speakoftheangel.com/goose/#respond Tue, 22 Nov 2016 03:35:46 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=3498 Vancouver went from light sweaters and no jacket to pulling out the Goose jacket REAL QUICK. The nice thing about owning a really warm jacket like my Savona bomber is that it keeps me warm enough that I can wear just an indoor shirt underneath and not worry about freezing to death when I’m outside. I’m actually really glad I got the green coloured Savona rather than sticking with the norm and getting black. Throughout the last few years I’ve pretty much converted my entire closet to a neutral / black and white palette so even though this jacket is green it still goes with most of the items in my wardrobe. Not to mention the jacket is a nice army green which I think is actually quite a versatile colour as it’s muted enough to almost be considered a “neutral” colour.

I didn’t think I would get so invested in bombers again but I’ve pretty much been living in them this season. The Kanaka bomber from Aritzia is another one I’ve been frequenting lately. As I’ve been pretty much only going to three places lately (school, work, gym) it’s been the perfect jacket to throw over any casual outfit.

img_7238img_7244img_7237img_7243 img_7246

I paired the jacket with a thin black turtleneck and my mid-rise Rocket Ventanas. The other trend that I’ve been guilty of repeating over and over again lately is the tight turtlenecks. I’m actually OBSESSED because they’re so easy to wear and style. Not to mention warm and comfortable too. Can’t believe I’ve never owned any before this season. The Huet shirt from Aritzia has been my favourite one so far.

What pieces have you been consistently reaching for this season?

XOXO, Gossip Girl https://speakoftheangel.com/xoxo-gossip-girl/ https://speakoftheangel.com/xoxo-gossip-girl/#respond Mon, 24 Oct 2016 21:46:35 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=2972 Every year when summer is ending and fall is beginning I always think to myself “this year I will wear a lot of skirts”. I love fall outfits that feature different skirts (a-line, leather, suede…<3) and constantly want to adopt those skirts into my cold weather wardrobe. However, as soon as the cold actually hits, skirts are pretty much the last thing I want to consider when picking what to wear in the morning! Thankfully we’ve still had some semi-not freezing days so I was able to bring out my Wilfred Free skirt from Aritzia for one last hurray before I stash it away for the winter. img_8450img_8428 untitled-2img_8431 img_8421 img_8420 untitled-3

This corduroy skirt quickly became one of my favourite pieces in my fall wardrobe. I love the neutral brown-ish green colour with the vintage looking buttons. It fits better than other a-line skirts that I’ve seen from other stores. I find that it’s actually really flattering around the bum area and is not too tight but not too flared. The only bone that I have to pick with this skirt is the length! It is quite a short skirt, but as long as you’re not wearing it to a business meeting you’re good to go! As I’ve mentioned before, cropped sweaters are another trendy fall piece that I’ve been obsessed with this season. This really nice scalloped-hem sweater is also from Aritzia and I think it pairs perfectly with this skirt. I had to size up two sizes for this sweater (bought a medium) because of how tight and cropped it is. But I think the medium is a perfect fit for me! It’s the perfect amount of loose and cuddly but also cropped and trendy. I’ll definitely be repeating this outfit a bunch this fall whenever I have the need to dress up.  Threw on tights because it was chilly still outside but also because it made me feel like Blair from Gossip Girl.

img_8423 I’ve just finished my midterms week (FINALLY) which is the reason I’ve been slacking on the blogposts. But I’m back! And ready to get shit done. So keep your eyes peeled for more outfit posts soon!

Hope you guys are having a great Monday.

Grey Matter https://speakoftheangel.com/grey-matter/ https://speakoftheangel.com/grey-matter/#respond Sun, 10 Jan 2016 05:33:26 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1477 IMG_2154IMG_2150 IMG_2149

I don’t know what it is about this Fall/Winter season, but it has made me fall utterly and totally in love with the colour grey. I’ve always loved and worn a lot of grey but now I am full-on OBSESSED. I think it’s just such a beautiful and versatile colour.

My 2 favourite pieces, from this winter’s purchases, are my grey Montpellier sweater and my grey Gasparin scarf, both from Aritzia. I’m going to shamelessly admit that I was actually holding back on purchasing the Montpellier sweater for quite some time. And the only reason I finally bit the bullet and purchased it is because it got stocked in this exact colour. Which makes it looks exactly like the sweater Drake wore in his Hotline Bling video…. Oops. The hype is real.

But, on the real, I actually ended up falling in love with the slouchy, relaxed silhouette of this sweater and I’ve gotten A LOT of wear out of it since.

As for the scarf, I think it’s a great budget-friendly alternative for the infamous Acne Studios scarf that everyone and their mothers have lusted over at least once. I personally haven’t ever felt the Acne one (which is made of 100% Wool) but the Gasparin (80% Wool, 20% Polyamide) has a great soft feel yet has enough stiffness in it to create great body. I LOVE IT. I might buy the camel coloured version if and when we get it restocked.

What has your favourite colour for Fall/Winter 2015 been?

Fall Sweater Dress https://speakoftheangel.com/fall-sweater-dress/ https://speakoftheangel.com/fall-sweater-dress/#respond Wed, 02 Dec 2015 07:03:36 +0000 http://speakoftheangel.com/?p=1467 Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s2 preset

|Sweater dress: Aritzia | Thigh High Socks: Ardenes | Boots: Aldo | Vest: Aritzia | Necklace: Tenth Muse Jewelry | Scarf: Aritzia|

Sweater dresses with thigh high boots or socks have been all the rage this fall season. Too bad I only got to rock this cute taupe turtleneck dress once before Vancouver decided to freeze over. The weather here has been crazy cold lately and gone are the days I can bare any skin whatsoever.

It was great while it lasted though ! I love the colour and fit of this dress. Surprisingly enough, I actually bought this in a XXS which is INSANITY because usually XXS ANYTHING is WAY too small for my 5’8 figure. However, I guess it’s just the fit of this particular dress, but I actually liked how the XXS fit on me more than I liked the XS. It fit a little tighter, and the shoulders fit a little better.

And can we obsess over this colour for a minute? It’s the perfect taupey-mauve colour; the perfect in-between of cold and warm. When paired with a warm-coloured scarf like the maroon one I have on, it really makes the dress look warmer toned. However, when paired with a more cool-toned scarf it shows up more on the taupey-cool-toned-grey shade.

What’s your favourite trend been this Fall/Winter?
